Upcoming G20 and and our high terror alert level are possibly the reasons, just wondering if the rest of you guys, with higher than usual alerts, have bins at your train stations.

"The G20 Leaders Summit will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Brisbane on November 15 and 16 - just metres away from the location of the out-of-order bins."

theres ya reason, closing em a little while before the even removes the risk of someone putting in a delayed action bomb, makes perfect sense.

From what I remember all public places rubbish bins disapeared in France ages ago after bombs where planted by the Algerian Islamic Salvation Front in Paris (and maybe somewhere else) in the late 80s and early 90s.
Now replaced by transparent plastic bags held in place by a metal frame. Works just fine.

In Canton, China, I've recently seen rubbish bins taped over.

Cheers,
Slug

They do this for the BART system in the San Francisco area too, leads to a lot of trash being left around but these days you can't be too safe. An unattended bag is one thing thats easy to look for but a bag discreetly placed in a trash bin is something else. And its an easy thing to dump something in a crowded subway station.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

In Japan there's virtually none. Convenience stores (which are everywhere) even moved theirs inside the doors to stop other people using them. You're expected to carry your rubbish home.
And largely, people do.

Yep, and that in a land where virtually everything is wrapped up in several layers of plastic, which produces heaps of trash over a very short period. smile

Why men throw their lives away attacking an armed Witcher... I'll never know. Something wrong with my face?
