Destiny has me wanting to take the jump to the new gen consoles. I do not play consoles heavily as I mostly play MMOs on my PC that I built in April 2014. Currently I only have an Xbox 360 and Live account and have never entered the Sony PS ecosystem. Right now the Xbox 360 is seeing more use for Netflix and Xbox video where I have six or seven movies purchased and downloaded.

The destiny release has me wanting to take the plunge but I am not sure of which way to go. Being already invested in Xbox live makes me want to stay there but the PS4 seems to still be a little better although I have not experienced their online equivalent of Xbox Live. The Destiny PS4 bundle seems nice but is it nice enough to ditch the Xbox environment and the apps that come with the Xbox?

Just looking for opinions, but I will probably wait and see what the reviews of Destiny bring for each system as well.

Not a Sci Fi fan, so not interested in Destiny, but I do have a Xbox One and my daughter has a PS4.... I used to have (well still have but don't play) both Xbox 360 with live and PS3 with the plus...

IMO... the PS4 is the best gaming console, more powerful, bigger library of old and new games... but never really liked their online service, and they do seem to get hacked or taken down more often then Live.

The Xbox One is a awesome entertainment system if you like sports, TV, and some games, it's not as powerful as the PS4 but all the games I play still look awesome. I went to the ONE mainly because Xbox Live has always been a damn good service and most of my friends are on live compared to PS plus. But the game selection is pretty damn low right now on the ONE... I'm only playing 6 games CoD/BF4/Madden/NHL... hell can't even think of the other 2...

SO, IMO... Xbox One for friends, online service, and a entertainment console... PS4 for better more powerful gaming... that is all. Good Luck... and whenever I see one of these post I think of that Big Bang Theory episode.

I'm saving up for the XB1. I have zero interest in the PS4 and it has to do with the simple fact that I value the online service from XBL and also that most of my XB360 friends (like yourself) have migrated to the XB1.

I'm disappointed in the lack of games but that will come with time.

I'm hoping to be hooking up with you for some BF4 sometime this fall on the XB1.

If your taking the next gen plunge solely based on Destiny. Go XBox One. Playstation network is not stable at all. Its been hacked twice in the last month.

Leemz I bought my XB1 at Target. I didnt get any free games but I got 10% off any game/games I bought with it.

Just FYI PSN was not hacked this month, it was a DDOS attack which just means some idiots had lots of bots send bogus network traffic to the PSN servers to make it hard to respond to legitimate network traffic.

The same DDOS attackers also brought down Blizzard's Battlenet servers, DOTA that weekend...

I usually can let it pass when you guys talk about Sony being hacked and XBL not being hacked, but it is not really true since my XB360 XBL account was hacked sometime back via me installing the FIFA13 demo and it's link to the EA servers and someone bought hundreds of dollars of FIFA points on my XBL card...

The main difference there was Sony notified me of the PSN hack and gave me some free games as compensation, wheres Microsoft denied the hack and threatened to lock my XBL ID for 5 weeks if I really wanted them to investigate a hack instead of just resetting my password, despite the amount of other victims of the same hack they still denied it and left it up to me to followup with my CC company on the fraud charges and offered me nothing as prevention besides removing my CC from my XBL account.

So from my personal experience being hacked on PSN and not losing any money but getting free games and hacked on XBL and losing hundreds and getting nothing but poor customer service, Sony actually had the much better acknowledgement of the security problem and customer service compared to Microsoft who denied and provided no help.

I think choosing XBOne over PS4 based on the XBL service and how many of your friends are on XBL versus PSN is a great reason to choose it, choosing XBOne over PS4 based on Sony being hacked more than XBL is poor choice because XBL is actually worse in that regard based on my experience from PS3 and XB360.

I currently own and use XB360, PS3, and bought a PS4 first because of game performance and HW support and since I dont game online much on console, I plan to buy a XBOne when they add Windows Media Center Extender support.

just to counter... and I respect your opinion Kludger... I've had a 360 for years, never once hacked or anything stolen, and never went down for more then 1 day at a time.... on the other hand I also had a PS3, got my account stolen twice, PSN went down for over a month, and had routine outages that lasted days... so that is my experience, and why I am a Xbox Fanboy... thou I admit the PS4 is a better game system then the ONE.


But still, I agree... base it on either performance, friends list, or game options. Both systems are great.

Same here Magnum, sorry to hear you also got hacked, seems like the hack part is common to both depending on luck.

Yeah I agree, base your decision on the strengths of how you will use the console, if you play online with friends then it's a pretty easy choice to go with where they are.

Thankfully I plan to end up with both assuming the nextgen games actually show up and Microsoft keeps correcting course on features compared to XB360 so won't have to choose eventually :-)

Right now to be honest I mostly spend my time on my PS4 playing things that are available on lastgen (Diablo3 and FIFA14), the extra graphics compared to lastgen and great controls compared to PC are worth it but I'm still waiting for the real got-to-have-it nextgen games to show up.

I'm still not sure if I will pick up Destiny, waiting to see if it's a true great game with lots of replayability or just a temporary flash in the nextgen pan like Titanfall and Watchdogs and Infamous Second Son...

The only time my XBL Account was hacked was less than 48 hours after I used the "Friend Finder" for Origin to find my Xbox Friends on BF3 PC.

Coincidence? I think not. I hope the guy in brazil had fun getting me MS Points for playing FIFA.

So hacked was the wrong word. Point being XBL seems more reliable than PSN.

My point was if you are basing which next gen console to get to play Destiny on IMO it would make sense to go with Xbox. If Destiny wasnt an online game then i would say PS4.

Yeah agreed if your friends are on XBL, Destiny on XBL is a no brainer.

BTW I saw that if you buy the XBOne after Sept 9th, you can actually get Destiny as the Free Game... pretty nice to be able to get a brand new game as the free game.

Damn good deal compared to the release price especially if you buy the Madden bundle for $399 and get Destiny free.

Sorry to hear about your problems with XBL, kludger. That really sucks. I can understand your loyalty to Sony as a result. However, like Magnum, my experience with XBL has been extremely positive. Aside from how they sell their MS points i don't really have any complaints at all.

At this point I have no interest in Destiny so that's not a factor. Like i said, mostly, it's to keep in contact with friends and i like the XBL experience.

I understand that the PS4 is probably the better gaming console but that's about the equivalent of me worrying that someone has a better PC with a more powerful CPU and a better graphics card than I have. Its a trade-off I'm willing to accept for XBL and to game with longtime online friends and, unlike on the PC, the playing field is pretty level. I've been gaming online a lot on the pc over the past year and I really miss the fun and comraderie of playing online with people i know instead of with 20 or 30 silent strangers as is typical on the PC.

MS Points are gone.

I like and at the same time distrust both Microsoft/XBL and Sony/PSN evenly :-)

Non-fanboy here who plans to own both consoles eventually and enjoy the best of both and PC as well, like I do with last gen, the timing of my purchases had been planned to buy both on release but has just been waiting for a compelling reason to own each one, I pulled the trigger on PS4 first due to Infamous Second Son.

But I totally agree with this thread and weighing the pros and cons XBL is the better online one, I just didn't want you guys to assume as far as hacking that Sony was the only bad one, XBL has hack problems too and in some ways is more infuriating because they don't admit it, seems like that pays off as most people don't know about it unless they have been impacted.

Sony's big problem I think is the PSN servers don't have the capacity, they didn't handle the DDOS attacks and even the release of Minecraft this Tue caused some short PSN outages, so I would expect PSN to have issues when Destiny releases next week.

XBL definitely has much better capacity and online uptime.

That XBOne free game deal is actually pretty tempting... getting Destiny free would be awesome especially with Forza Horizon 2 releasing soon... hmm.
