I tried a very brief and lazy search for another thread on this and didn't find anything. Since this game came out it renewed my interest in finding literature on WW1 planes. I generally dislike ordering books without seeing them so I just scout stores until I stumble across things. It was pretty slim pickings until recently, but with the 100 year anniversary there has been a few good things I've found. I should note that I'm more interested if finding illustrations than I am finding deep reading. It's my ADD. wink I'm a huge fan of things like the DK Series of books.

Everything I found can be had at Barnes and Noble or online if you don't want to pay the marked up prices.

Red Baron Graphic Novel
The Red Baron: The Graphic History of Richthofen's Flying Circus and the Air War in WWI:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Red-Baron-Richthofens-Histories/dp/076034602X

I read 90 percent of this while on vacation at the store. Fantastic graphic novel that is historically accurate with some fantastic artwork. Came out this year so it should be pretty easy to find. The only knock I have is how it's drawn almost feels like German propaganda. The Germans just look so happy and friendly throughout the book. wink

Magazine Section:
Famous Fighters of World War 1:
http://shop.keypublishing.com/product/View/productCode/SPECFF/Famous-Fighters-of-World-War-1

Fantastic overview of the major planes for the war. It looks like a lot of this is taken directly from Osprey Publishing books. The Eindecker section is word for word the same as the Osprey book that covers the same topic. Covers the following planes Eindecker, DH2, 17, Bristol F2, SE5, Spad XIII,D.V, Camel, DR.1, and DVII.

Lots of great pictures, and a nice simple spec sheet for each plane. 16 bucks if you grab it from the store, but it looks like you can get it online for cheaper.

Dueling Above the Trenches (Sopwith Aircraft of the Great War)
http://www.classicmagazines.co.uk/produc...sharp-bookazine

Marked up to 20 bucks at Barnes and Nobles (Can be found cheaper online) I'd still say it's worth the 20. Comes in at 129 pages and covers a ton of information about the Sopwith line of planes. I haven't read through this one yet, but it has tons of pictures and towards the back it has charts on things like Aces in each plane type.

That's what I have for now. Osprey Publishing has a ton of books, but it appears to only be easy to find online and a lot of the pictures are tiny or highly cropped. They do have ebooks for some of them, but I find these types of books require the actual printed work. YMMV.

So you have any good finds?

Best book I read so far from a German aviator - Fuchs could not only fly, he was also
a painter, and so his descriptions create immediate, colourful images in your mind.

Classics of the Air: An Illustrated History of the Development of Military Planes from 1913-1935

Found mine at a used book store. Can usually find a lot of cool aviation stuff at used books stores, at least the ones around here.

I've bought it on Amazon.de, printed in sueterlin , ouch !! edited in 1938,that was probably a gift as someone handwrote a quote from Adolf on the first page , Ouch again !

"Anyone can shoot you down if you don't see him coming but it takes a wonderfully good Hun to bag a Camel if you're expecting him."

The Essential Aircraft Identification Guide: Aircraft of World War I

http://www.booktopia.com.au/aircraft-of-world-war-i-1914-1918-jack-herris/prod9781906626655.html

(Note: I got my copy on Amazon. There are two versions, one from I think 2010 that is far too expensive for my taste, and a reprint from 2013)

A solid overview of the air war, different strategies over time and so forth. It's possible they spent too much time on bombers and Gothas, but I prefer my scouts. LOTS of art showing different aircraft markings, with squad and pilot spelled out. It gives some basic specs on a huge variety of aircraft and pays some attention (a chapter) on the Eastern Front, as well as the naval war (Seaplanes, Zeps and such.) It even has a few planes that were in development and probably would have gone into production if the war continued (and/or did postwar) such as the SPAD 20.

I have this, good bathroom reading but I wish there was something a bit more comprehensive out there. Would also like fewer profiles and more views.

Hi,

I have two journals. In my opinion I highly recommended especially Famous Fighters of WW1.

Cheers! salute

Yup that's the two I got. Finished famous fighters and will certainly browse through it over and over when bored. The other one I've only give a quick look. It's a little less interesting to me since it just focuses on one thing.
