Flew to Venice Florida for the weekend. Visited a place that was full of definite "not-chick" cars. Here is a small sample.

I have seen miatas eat mustangs all day at autocross events. Not so much at the drags though. Different strokes as they say. :-)

I need to check that out. Thanks for the pics! If you are still in the area, this collection is worth seeing too. Usually a car show or two every month there that brings in some nice rides also:

Well, yeah, but autocross is its own kind of racing, generally favoring smaller, lighter vehicles over larger more powerful ones. On normal race tracks, any time Miatas and Mustangs are racing on the track at the same time, the Miatas are generally in a separate (slower) category. Tracks large enough for cars to really use their power make it very difficult for Miatas to compete with the likes of Mustangs, Camaros, Aston Martins, 911s, etc.

Agreed. That was my point really. Autocross is more of a tight corner handling-centric test. G forces do not favor heavy more powerful cars, but long straights and sweepers do. At 1900 pounds, I can sure see where the Miata would be a different animal around the Dragon versus a 3600 pound Mustang for instance.

If you go by their names, most cars are chick cars these days. With names like "Sephia," "Elantra," "Yaris," "Fit," etc, how can they be anything but chick cars?

Lot of those around here.

Had a couple of Riverside County d-bags try that on me once in California- managed to change lanes and get even with them just as they got up a full head- into the windshield of the California Highway Patrol car that had been right behind me.

And speaking of small, "cute," lightweight roadsters being able to take down more "manly" muscle cars:

I'm a born and breed muscle car guy but any one that has seen a well driven Miata on the track might not be so quick to label them a chick car.

Miatas are definitely great cars to drive. However, whenever I see a red Miata, I think of this: (the person has to be a genius to come up with their names in the movie):

I love Mustangs, but have to agree with Automatic V-6 Mustangs being chick cars. Specially the convertibles.

I take it you've never lived there, just visited looking to meet girls? Once one is out of college, you figure out its where wussy bleeding heart liberals go to raise their kids. You know, the kind of people who are most terrified of mediocrity, who only shop at Whole Foods, protest war just because it's well, war, who play Mozart to their unborn kid so it'll get into an ivy league school, and who drive wussy little smart cars. I lived there 10+ years and speak from experience. Wussville central. Thank god I moved to Raleigh, which rocks in comparison.

Nearest to this in our family was this one my grandfather built, picture is taken in France around 1952, as of 2 years ago the car was still running around and in just as good condition.

Yep, it's a good place. Plus it's free. They have the cars set up by period and type.

Magnum, have you been there ? Not too far from you.

That looks like a blast, and it's clearly performing well. However, I don't think you can learn much from videos like this, and for a few reasons.

First, we don't know the context. Were any of the other cars on a warm up lap? How many of those drivers had driven on a track before? Were they testing out some new equipment? When I was shopping for a car I searched for video reviews of Mustangs, and found a video of one outrunning a Camaro, BMWs, and a Porsche Cayman, but without knowing the context, I never felt confident it represented how they all truly compare. (here's a link to that video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKTR5Y9dqpA)

Second, that's not a stock S2000 - it's had a number of modifications for track use, so the S2000 driven off the lot would never do that well. Here's a list of the modifications: http://www.pb-motorsport.com/projects/time-attack-s2000

Lastly, one thing we *can* learn from that video is that it took around 9 minutes to complete the lap. Looking up Nurburgring times for production cars, look how far down the list you have to go to get to 9 minutes - right around the Chevy Cobalt SS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times

That doesn't mean the S2000 is a bad car, or that this particular S2000 couldn't outrun Camaros, Mustangs and Corvettes, but we have no way of knowing from that video.

Personally I judge a car based on it's looks, performance and how fun it is to drive and I don't really worry about whether chicks, hairdressers or even retirees drive it.

If I worried about that latter one then I'm sure most Porsches, Ferraris and musclecars that I love would be considered "old people cars" since that is the age of folks I usually see driving them.

I love Miatas and S2000s and other light, great handling, sports cars that don't need 500HP as a sign of how much manly-ness the driver has.

I suspect the people who worry too much about chick cars and compensating for manlyness are also the reason these accessories exist:

What's wrong with 500 horse power? I'd love to get 500 H.P. in my Mustang.
