...and possibly could come as a lower cost upgrade to owners of Windows 8.
"Following the release of Windows 9 (codenamed Threshold, expected in spring 2015), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) plans to do away with its traditional approach of launching major Windows releases every few years in favor of "regular, incremental updates," ZDNet's Mary-Jo Foley reports"

I don't know enough in that area to answer that question but i will guess that Windows 9 might be better able to take advantage of software and hardware advances and may have some advantages from a security angle ?

And an advantage from a "let's shuffle around the GUI for fun" level too.
I hate new Microsoft releases :P

Unless it prevents me from playing games I really want I will stay with 7.Plus I'm just starting to get to grips with Linux. It would be nice to ditch M$ once and for all.

What does Windows 9 offer over Windows 7 as far as PC gaming is concerned? If the answer is "nothing" then I have zero interest. If that's the only criteria, we should all still be running Win98. However I do agree with you Panzer. Especially when it comes to Microsoft and their OS bloat.

What does Windows 9 offer over Windows 7 as far as PC gaming is concerned? If the answer is "nothing" then I have zero interest. Considering Windows 9 has not been announced yet and there are no announced features other than the likelihood that the Start menu returns there is no possible way to answer your question. We could answer the same about Windows 23 just as easily. The Jedi Master

Actually, Win 7 is a big improvement over Win 98 for PC gaming due to the fact that Win98 doesn't support DX 11. Now if it turns out that Win 9 will have improvements with DX AND PC games will be utilizing those improvements then I may upgrade.

Most likely will be a necessary platform for DirecX 12, but that's just rumors for now. Since it will be a long time before DirecX 12 will make it into games - yep, I guess the answer is "nothing".

Yep, I was thinking that since MS controls both the OS and the critical DirectX, they can decide which OS is required for DX upgrades.
I'll be interested to see where MS go. They are lagging horribly behind with even Win7 compared to what is IMO fundamental UI expectation on PC desktops. Even missing simple things like context sensitive scroll wheel function.

Actually, Win 7 is a big improvement over Win 98 for PC gaming due to the fact that Win98 doesn't support DX 11. Falcon 4.0 and IL-2 don't support DX11 either. Nor do Steel Beasts, EECH, Longbow, Janes, or any number of other flight sims that are STILL 10+ years later unsurpassed. Yes, the games/sims push OS evolution just as much as OS evolution push the games. Lets hope that the sims make that evolution worth it.

What does Windows 9 offer over Windows 7 as far as PC gaming is concerned? In an effort to keep relevant in the more trendy markets, Win9 will restrict gamers to using only console style gaming controllers.

Looks like MS finally realize the Win 8 flop! The only thing they managed to do with that release was to drive more people towards Linux and/or Mac. Lets hope they learned a lesson but I have my doubts.
To me it's been clear for some time... MS golden days are over!

Considering how old Win 7 is I would think Win 9 would be a much more stable OS with lots of improvements, regardless of your gaming experience. Remember XP to Vista/7? XP was a shipwreck compared to even Vista in terms of its ability to repair itself. Win 7 further improved Vista. Now, if they throw on some garbage like Metro then we'll have a problem.
