Seven years in the making, it's now out.

For those who aren't familiar with it.... the original EB was perhaps the supermod for Rome Total War. The team included a lot of very talented modders and professional historians who created a mod that massively expanded the scope and depth of the original game. EBII continues that, but now with the Medieval II engine.

Well worth checking out.

Oh yeah! bananadance

Downloading...

Edit: Anyone think the original mod, great as it was, lacked a bit in the gameplay design department? I mean I get they were going for historical accuracy and all that but it seemed like they went a little too far in the balance-vs-fun-vs-realism department.
Or maybe I just suck.

I find the original EB enhanced the campaign map side of things a lot more than it did the battles.

Still, given Rome Total War also has the likes of Roma Surrectum, SPQR and Rome Total Realism there are some really good quality mods available that really enhance the vanilla game.

Still downloading EBII on my crappy 1.5Mbit connection... 1 hour left boing

Well, downloaded and installed no problems. That's a first for a Total War mod!

Taken a quick looks around at some of the factions, some awesome details the team has done an outstanding job. It's only 9pm here, wife watching murder mysteries, as much campaign time as I want. Yes, this should be a good night yep

Yep got it all downloaded now. I might save it for the weekend.

Which faction are you trying out first?

The Sabaeans in Southern Arabia, I figured their remote location would give me plenty of time to build up and explore the campaign mechanics without having to worry about being attacked by a serious power like Carthage.

Very first battle and I got a beautiful sunset in the hills of Yemen. The updated textures and models really breathe new life into Med II, though the interface still seems clunky and awkward compared to the newer games. Not that the EB team can do much about that.

Unit details are of course excellent and their is plenty to read about each building and unit. The campaign itself is absolutely brilliant. The EB guys really deserve all the praise they get, they've done a fantastic job!

Edit for illustration from later battle:
