Last night ShoGun and I tested torpedo missions in Moggy's Middle East using the SPAW planeset. Sho observed what happened when I released the torpedo, and I watched on F9 too.
Although the torpedo was carried under the fuselage it was released from the left wing.
I went back through all the versions of SPAW I have on my PCs and this happened in 1.28c, 1.28E, 1.29 and 1.40, so it was not a problem with Moggy's Middle East.

I experimented, and added a torpedo loadout to the Val, with a torpedo under the fuselage.
It released as expected.

I then copied the Val loadout file to the Kate folder, chose torpedoes and flew.
This time, as before the torpedo was carried centrally but released from the left wing.

This is not in my area of expertise, but I suspect that it is due to a hardpoint code line in one of the 3dz files.
Any thoughts?

wink Jel

Just out of interest I made a quick 1.40 conversion of VBH's Kate from PT3.
I did not worry about transparencies as the 3dz files referenced both the 109E and 109K tpc files, so the appearance is not good.

However, it was enough for a test with the torpedo, and this skin has the same problem smile

wink

Edit:
By renaming all the 3dzs apart from the f.3dz to disable them, the problem still occurred when I flew so if it is a 3dz problem it will be in that file.

I first thought the same thing. Wrong hardpoint code.

I will check that and report back, however, it could also be an error in the .flt file. I say that because you have the same problem with the old lo-res Kate which was NOT the base model for the hi-res Kate. That makes the probability low that the hard code would be wrong in exactly the same way. ( Low but not impossible )

FYI, I actually used the hi-res Stuka as the base for technical 3DZ modeling reasons.

Anyhow, when you open the individual flight files with the editor you will see, towards the end of the file, a set of numbers related to the drop points for each of the five allowable points. The third one is the center point ( if I remember correctly ). If the "Y" value isn't Zero then that's the culprit. Set it to Zero and test it out.

Thanks Ray- that was a useful clue that I was unaware of.
For a quick test I borrowed a Stuka flt file and used it in the Kate FM. The torpedo dropped from the middle as it should smile
So now I will have a look at the flight file with the editor smile

It seemed to be the Y value in the first of the five points which was (3, -15, 3)
Making it (3, 0, 3) fixed the problem.

The corrected file is at OneDrive

Thanks again Ray smile

Hi Tony.

I bet you'll find a few other FM drop point errors, as editing those drop points in HEX was a real pain to get right, and many of the non default 3dz's created over the early years, have bodged FM's.

When I was trying to mod WWI FM's, working from real world and 3dz info, and converting it to FM data is a real pain. You need to add a proper 2 blade value into the ediror, as setting it to two reduces the thrust fron the prop, and makes the plane unflyable.

It would be time well spent to make a new simpler FM editer. wink
