Played this to death when I was about ten years old. What a fantastic game it was. Why don't they make compelling stuff like this any more?

Oh heck yeah!

I remember sweating out the navigation in trenches on the bottom more than anything else. And what a nutter, I kept everything at 1x speed to spend the whole day just whispering along from point to point.

Absolutely ferkin awesome game. Career mode, at least half a dozen different submarines classes to command, totally dynamic campaign, loads of different mission types, every campaign played out differently.

Totally engrossing and compelling game.... and all at under 500kb 25 years ago...

WTF happened to computer games?

Yes. Fondly. Enemy subs and helos where quite difficult to get away from. A volley of cruise missiles could take out an entire group of ships easily though.

That part just reminds me how old I'm getting. It doesn't seem that long ago.

So this game came out one year before the Hunt for Red October movie.

How's that for weird, a video game that was based on a best selling novel at the time!

I remember having to fight of the hoards of dinosaurs that were roaming around the caves that held all the books, I think they were called libraries.

Is that one of those games that came in a zip lock back with a 5 1/4" floppy disk?

No, MPS games were in boxes then. I got Gunship and F-19 around that time, both in nice boxes with nice manuals.

Don't forget Megafortress, another game based on a book.
