Very nice. Lots to like in the old wood and steel guns.

Ah... An a3 with the weird half semi pistol grips. If memory serves... Left over stock blanks from ww1 and this weird half attempt to update the design from the straight sort of the a1's to the usual semi pistol grip sort that became the norm in US small arms between the wars. The good ole m1903 has a bunch of interesting variations to the basic design. Everyone likes to forget that alot of Army units, Marines, and a heck of alot of support guys got the old springfield and not an m1 garand or m1 carbine in the first years of the war. Well until production caught up with demand in 1943 anyways.

Flash makes a good point! The M1 wasn't around much in certain areas during the beginning of WWI.

Changed the stock. The "scant stock that came on it fit poorly and I don't care for the look.

Nice. I have an A3 myself. Almost bought an original 1903 Rock Island Arms but the serial numbers were too low. Early 1903s weren't heat treated properly and aren't considered safe to shoot.

Nice rifle. Prices seem to be going down out here ( calif) as Rifle powder gets hard to find. However, theirs factory ammo
around but with a 2 box limit.

Nah, that was something that had to be done during the original forging process (as I understand it). The early rifles were heat treated by hand, and ran a chance of going into grenade-mode if they weren't done properly.
