Very nice. Lots to like in the old wood and steel guns.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

The 1903 is a classic, very nice!

Flash makes a good point! The M1 wasn't around much in certain areas during the beginning of WWI.

BTW what did that 03 cost you? About $200-$300 less than the normal going rate for one around here.

Nice. I have an A3 myself. Almost bought an original 1903 Rock Island Arms but the serial numbers were too low. Early 1903s weren't heat treated properly and aren't considered safe to shoot.

Could you have a "soft" receiver re heat treated? Nah, that was something that had to be done during the original forging process (as I understand it). The early rifles were heat treated by hand, and ran a chance of going into grenade-mode if they weren't done properly.

No, but once the bang sticks inside are removed one can cook in it.
