Hi,
I see card comments for a year ago but cards have moved on since then.
I need to choose a 2Gb or more vid card and it must work great for Cliffs of Dover.

Must be GeForce and also run silent.

Recommendations please.

why 2gb? that may be out done pretty soon. What's your price range? (btw, i'm Nvidia only. that company hasn't let me down yet. been buying their products since 1999)

I had said 2Gb or more, aware that 2Gb whilst current now will be outdone !..as you suggest

I can only seem to find mostly 2Gb cards though.

as you say Nvidia hasnt let me down.

so what Nvidia more than 2Gb can I go for and run silent.

price wise £400 tops if possible. Until I add up the cost of the rest I would like to think £400 max !
you dont get much for £150

ohh, i misread that.

Well, I just built a new computer this last weekend (first time building a computer in 6 years, so this was quite the upgrade!!)

A lot of my research was on what graphics card to get. With that said, you also need to make sure that your graphics card is paired with the right cpu. You don't want to bottle neck, you're only as fast as your slowest part.

I personally decided to go with a GTX780 6gb (future proofing so that i can SLI them when i want more monitors) It was a toss up for me between the 770 4gb and the 780 6gb.

The 770 4gb is defiantly a good card, but i didn't want that to be a potential weak point when paired with the i7 4790k processor i got.

And in the case of future proofing. If games do start bumping up against the 4gb vram limit, i wouldn't think that the 770 (even in SLI) would be nearly as good as the 780 (in SLI as well). I could be very mistaken, but regardless ... that's the choice i made.

So anyway, those are my recommendations. either the 770 or the 780.

You may like these sites:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-780-vs-GeForce-GTX-770 (you can compare any cards against each other here)

Consider this though, if you get the 770 2gb, and decided to SLI them then 2 770 2gb's DOES NOT mean you'll then get 4gb of vram. VRAM DOES NOT STACK like your ddr does. Same goes for 2 780 3gb cards. Games will very soon be pushing 3gb of vram (some already exceed it ... all-be-it because of mods or lousy coding) but if you get 2 780 3gb cards in SLI, the limiting factor there will be the 3gb of vram (hence my decision to go with the 6gb version)

Hope this helps you out!

Likewise !!!
I started considering the GTX770 then went over to thinking of the GTX 780 when I discovered it existed !
I had thought 770 4Gb then 780 4Gb, didnt know there was a 6Gb.

Internet thread on 2gb or 4gb says 1920 x 1080 cant make use of 4Gb. I have a very expensive 24inch £1200 monitor and its max res is 1920 x 1080 and I wont be getting two ! I would like to plug PC into a flat screen TV one day though my tower is very heavy so I cant see that happening !

Will 4Gb be wasted, if its dpi based and only worth going beyond 2Gb if having two monitors then 2Gb may be enough, but I always feel that games soon move on beyond current Gb limits, but am confused that the internet dsicussion about 2 v 4 said its all about dpi and not the game.

I will only be getting one card.

I previously though the fan blowing out through the second bay vent was a great idea but these are proving noisier in the noise tests than fans into the case interior and MSI are quietest of cards tested with that traditional method so I will go MSI.

The PC spec I recieved had :-
Intel Core i7 4820K Extreme with 780 Ti 3Gb and Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard as one option.
another at £500 less was Intel Core i7 4790 with GTX 780 Ti 3Gb and Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming GT
then a third option £790 less again Intel Core i5 4690K with GTX 750 Ti 2Gb and Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 Motherboard

What are your thoughts on the processor and maybe MB'd given the avoid bottleneck advice you give ?
I am completely out of touch with Processors knowledge wise.

I read that :-
If it is a quad core CPU in order for it to use all four cores it needs the four ram sticks to communicate with otherwise it cannot work as fast as possible.

so one would need 4 x 16Gb for 64Gb.

I wanted to be able to go for 128Gb ram for high end CAD work and understood Win7 64 Pro enables this but then get told the motherboards available wouldnt see 128Gb ram.

I see the 780 is DirectX 11, is CloD okay with DirectX 11 ? When it came out it required DX10, just wondered if its developers have modded it to suit DX11 as they exited the stage before DX 11 and the 780 came on the scene, I would think, slightly guessing at timescales here though.

This thread doesnt sound good:-

I got an ASUS gaming laptop for Fathers Day. Love it! I handed my desktop over to my son and he's a happy camper cause it's a good one.
It's my first laptop and I'll never go back to desktops. Love the mobility.
Mine is a ROG model, too. I have the GTX 860M and my rig runs everything on high. I'm presently enjoying Black Flag. What a great game. Beautiful. It runs COD with the Fusion mod without even breathing hard. And I like everything turned up because I like my games pretty.
I've been experimenting with the overclock utility. Pretty cool.

Hi, Anyone running the Geforce GTX970 with Cliffs of Dover yet ?

Same driver as for the 780 I am told but its 4Gb and £60 less and outperforms GTX780 5to7fps more.

Its described as a GPU gamechanger, nukes all else.

Being same driver I hope that means same compatability with CoD.

Has just recently hit the shelves.

Does one not buy it and get the 780 or get it and hope CoD catches up ?...if CoD doesnt work on it, I hope it does.
