This are the information and graphic OP-Plan we got from the BN-HQ:(scenario mission briefing)

HASTY DELAY

Our forces were forced to withdraw after ferocious fighting. Your detachment (Coy minus), that has been guarding our flank, will keep the door open for friendly units and then withdraw while causing as many casualties to the enemy as possible. The enemy in your region is most likely trying to
1) destroy the blue flank guard and
2) reach the stream-line and cross it to enable red main forces (Regiment - ETA 1 day) to attack accros it without stopping.
3) begin pursuit if the situation allows

Your mission:
1) keep the road crossing (blue oval) until YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WITHDRAW
2) withdraw and DELAY THE ENEMY while causing maximum casualties and keeping your own casualties minimum
3) CROSS THE STREAM WHEN ALLOWED TO and withdraw to the "EXIT"-area (NOTE: stream crossing points for biber marked on map!)

BOUNDARIES:
-You may not enter the area south of the line marked on your map. That area is friendly unit AOR. The unit will activate once you have withdrewn and will start attacking enemy supply units. Their location is unknown at the moment! Your flanks are covered by small AT units and barriers.

BLUE FORCES:

ALPHA (you!)
-4 x Strv 122
-4 x CV90B
-Biber bridgelayer
-2 x 81mm mortar (HE and smoke)

+CHARLIE: friendly infantry units guarding our flanks -> IF #%&*$# HITS THE FAN YOU CAN CALL THEIR 2 CVs TO YOUR REINFORCEMENTS USING TRIGGER 1 - THIS WILL LOWER THE SCORE...
+DELTA: withdrawing blue units from east (ETA 20 min)
+FOXTROT: a platoon in your rear in repairs (finished in ~40 minutes) <- YOU MAY ALSO USE THE "F" HEMTTs AND M113MED BEFORE THEY LEAVE!
+ECHO: scout patrol overwatching the enemy main advance route

RED FORCES:
Approximately a mech inf company (+) and possible follow-on forces with BMP and T-80 equipment and mortar-support. Red CAS possible, but artillery is out of reach. Enemy regiment/division recce patrols are most likely already in our AOR trying to locate our forces. There is approximately one platoon of mech inf in CHURCHILL - the unit was engaged with our delaying patrols (CHARLIE) along the HIGHWAY earlier this morning. The unit propably scouted and cleared the route for the forward guard and will most likely stay at Churchill until replenished.

THE AREA YOU ARE TO DEFEND IS BIG, BUT YOU ARE OUR ONLY FORCE AVAILABLE NOT MAULED BY THE ENEMY! WE TRUST IN YOU TO DEAL A DECISIVE BLOW ON THE ADVANCING ENEMY SO THAT IT CANNOT BEGIN PURSUIT AND WE HAVE TIME TO RE-ESTABLISH OUR DEFENCES!

Maptrace:

My company CO (PaladinSix) started planning the delay right away. While I told my platoon's sergants to check the CV-90s and load an extra haul of RBS-57 grunt

Out little combat team is a company(-). 1 platoon Stridsvagn-122, 1 Platoon CV-9040, an FO, CO (CV-9040) XO(Stridsvagn-122) and a mortarsection with 2 tubes. Engineers are providing an ABLV. CSS consists of an M-88 and a M113 ambulance.

A short time later we received maptrace from our company CO...and heard on radio: "...stand by for FRAGO in 2 mike...over"

So we where going to do a time limited defence to hold the withdraw-route open, and then delay over 4 phaselines to the north-west. The Main-road is to be platoon boarder. We are on the left, the tanks on the right.

We move to the left of DUMPLAKE and prepare to fight mounted and dismounted:

The enemy is already here. Scout teams are trying to find us, and they first send recce units with BRDM-2 to establish contact.

So the question is: What happens to a BRDM that runs into a prepared mechanized force??

Well, the same that happens to everything that runs into a prepared mech. force attack

The enemy recon generally failed. But one scout team slipped past...and our Boss had to club it out very close and personal.

ENY recon on foot got further, but not much further:Towarisch, did you bring RPG? No? Bugger neaner

Our tanks soon found T80s overwatching the BRDMs (they did a lousy job there by the way) and engaged them.

In this case the russian armour was stronger then the swedish sabot round.

The ENY now knows where we. This is when the clock starts ticking! In a Delay, never overstay your welcome on a phase line!!
They no tried to attack our right wing and moved against the tank platoon.
But "Tankhunter"(he honored this during this mission in his Stridsvagn thumbsup) had moved a little forward and found the enemy's main force as they tried to sneak in.

Without hesitation he send a couple of Sabots into their exposed flank.

At the same time a little further back, Our CO has a run in with remnants of the killed Scout vehicles.

He informs us that he will now lead dismounted. That means a long day on foot for the command section.

The kill of our CO vehicle must have embolden our enemy, rather unorthodox for a MechInf+armour, they continued to push trough the forest against our right wing.

Where they meet Tankhunter and friends with their Stridsvagn. A series of knife fights erupted who ended all in our favor.

As our own sector was pretty quiet, I ordered my wingman( Nebs) further west IOT to provide flanking fire in front of our tankplatoon.

With the sound the enemy closing in in what appears to be his main effort, the CO thought it may be wise to get out of the way. He moved east to join up with own forces. But his bad luck didn't end there. They ran into a a platoon of BMP-2, getting under heavy maschinegun fire.

With all but him killed in the command section, the situation for the Boss looked pretty grim.

That's when the training kicked in ready wink
Rolling over to grasp a dropped AT-4, the CO kills one of the BMP-2s

Tankhunter, rushed forward to aid the CO. (Who was in this case VERY lucky that he didn't get slotted by flying sabot-pedals)

Seeing the dire situation from my position, I tell Nebs to take over the Platoon and watch my left flank...while I rush forward to save our CO.

With the right wing under preasure, the CO's-life in the balance and D-company still nowhere near, how will it turn out?

1st We had to save our Boss.

After a short dash under the whatful eye of Nebs and Tankhunter I'm able to reach him and he is crawling towards the troop-door.
Before I can welcome him on board my gunner yells: "tank-200"

Crap!!!

Now we need to hurry a wee bit jawdrop
I have to do 3 thing at the same time: dive into the hatch...shout fire...hit the smoke grenades.

The 40mm round into the roadwheels will only slow him down but fail to knock him out (at least he can't pursue us fast)

But the smokescreen helps

Puh, that was close! While the 40mm spoke, the grunts pulled the CO into the Infantry hatches...his feet still sticking up, but its time to make a runner

Another fine shot by Tankhunter finally safes my butt:

At the same time further north, the engineers are doing their job.

Hope this will give us an escape route if needed...

I few moments later, I reached the my platoon again.
Time to set of the CO...and get my spare pants from the Bergen.
Can this day get better? Yes it can, my Plt-Sgt informs me that No.2 had a engine problem.

"Don't worry Sir. We change a few parts real quick. You'll have it back in 30 mike!"

Unfortunately, our maintenance team took a wrong turn and drove in front of our lines...not behind.

An enemy BMP-2 was able to take a few shots---the resulting ammo cook of made the "30 mike..." number look abit optimistic .
But the mechanics where brave ones, and despite rounds hissing by, they at least salvaged the CV90.
Our XO finaly decided it was time to get a bit hand on and killed that BMP-2

Meanwhile D-company made a pass through our lines and got to safety

Time to leave PL-2!
A short count of "kill-reports" (see maptrace) also told us that we (well, mainly the tank-platoon) took down 2 companies worth of AFV's. That should knock the fight out of the enemy vanguard and allow us a clean breaking of contact.

My problem was that I was now short one IFV, and could not get my guys out in one lift :-(
My dismounts volunteered to stay behind and cover our fall back to PL-3.
I wanted to pick them up later.

Unknown to us, the leader of the remaining BMP platoon, wanted to play hero, and continued to advance on our left.
My squaddies where caught on the wrong foot.

I could hear maschine-cannon fire and
after their initial report:"Contact PC, wait over..."
Nothing frown

I was pissed! I told the driver too turn 180° and go. Now they got caught

ar15

The 1st 2 BMPs fell in seconds...the 3rd tried to back up into the woods.

...where I ended its misery.

No more contacts where reported afterwards and we made our way north in a few bounds/mutual-overwatch.

Here we have an eye on the main road=our escape route.

The company moving north:

Last thing to do was for the engineers to pick up the bridge (hey, we don't want the bad guys having an easy crossing) after all our callsign moved north.

After all, and successful mission!

Phase lines held as required.
Not too many own casualties (9 in my platoon, 6 in the command team) still sad tough.
1 IFV lost, 1 IFV heavy damage, 1 tank light/medium damage

2 enemy companies + recon units destroyed.

Thanks for reading!

Again, beautiful AAR! Looked like a fun battle to partake in. UK Armour are a good bunch of buys to play with.
