I watched this again recently and I was looking through the entire cast list and I was amazed to see how many actors were in it that were relatively unknown at the time but later on made it big in Hollywood,
James McAvoy Michael Fassbender Jamie Bamber Simon Pegg Tom Hardy

Yep. It's fun to look for the actors that were unknowns at the time and compare it to where they are today.
Most awesome series. Watch it once or twice a year. Still as compelling as it was when it was released. Can't wait for Masters of the Air!
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

It is trippy Panzer..the amount i times i have seen even the people who had smaller parts in BoB since then, i keep on expecting them to fall into character, the series was that good.
Beautiful series no doubt. I haven't kept track of the actor, might have to watch it again. I was very pleased to see David Schwimmer in a serious roll, I had to remember he was not Ross from time to time, though.
The Pacific on the other hand... meh. I couldn't relate to any character or their personal stories. If asked mid-show I wouldn't know the name of any of those men.
When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".

The first film I really noticed Tom Hardy was in Star Trek Nemesis.

I thought you never saw Blackhawk Down?

And it looks stunning in BluRay, the first "wowsa lookit that" TV series - heck, movie - that makes one believe one is right there watching the action.
Their photography director deserved whatever he was paid and then some, with a healthy kickback to the lighting guy.

Huh? I don't quite get what you're saying.

Agreed. The Pacific suffered from trying to tell the whole story of the 1st Marine Div in the PTO, nearly three years of combat, in 10 episodes and from the viewpoint of multiple characters in different units, whereas BoB followed only one unit across 11 months of fighting. There was no way The Pacific could have kept the "intimate" feel BoB had. The end result was lackluster character development and frantic pacing. I personally think they would have been better off solely using Eugene Sledge's With the Old Breed for the series; follow K/3/5 from the time Sledge joins them in mid '44 through the end of the war. The timespan covered would be roughly the same amount as BoB, and it would have allowed for more detailed storytelling and character development. Still can't believe they only did one episode to cover Okinawa.
