What's the most recent non-English language film you saw? Just curious to see the replies for a little blog I'm workig on.

As for me, my most recent non-English language film was "Ran" by Akira Kurosawa,

Mononoke Hime I think a month or so ago but I can't remember if I watched the English translation or the Japanese.
I have Waar waiting on my harddrive for when I'm in the mood for it, I don't watch a lot of movies lately.

Not recent at all, but my two very favorite foreign films:

Dark Blue World (Czech)

A Tale of Two Sisters (Korean)

Why oh why have these not been released on bluray? frown

Great movie. Haven't seen it in years.

For me, it is Shaolin Soccer. Watched it (not for the first time) about a year ago.

Either Dark Blue Work or Days of Glory. Can't remember which one was the most recent. Both were excellent.

War of the Arrows - Korean
Mongol - Chinese/ Mongolian/Russian
Troll Hunter - Norwegian
1911 Revolution - Chinese

Those are the last 4 films I have watched that are not in English, Troll Hunter at least had English subtitles though, the others only had Dutch or French subtitles. I have not counted the many Belgian/Dutch/German programs/films I have seen.

Ah one of my favourite film makers, I have Ran and Kagemusha in my collection, we had a season of them on Channel 4 in the UK in the late 1980s and they showed the likes of Yo jimbo, Seven Samurai, and a few others I can't remember off hand.

Shogun is still one of my favourite TV series along with The Water Margin, I have Shogun on DVD and the first half of The water Margin, I need to get the second half of it but it is long out of production.

That was a while ago, I don't watch movies often so it's not a frequent thing to see foreign language films.

Shogun is one of my favorite tv miniseries of all time. You can't go wrong having Chamberlain, Mifune and John Rhys Davies on your cast. As for Kurosawa, I've been a huge fan for a long time. I like his non-Samurai films as well like "High & Low" and "Dreams".

Forgot about Trollhunter. I thought it was pretty good. And if we ever get invaded by giant trolls, I'll be the bait so you guys can get away as they detest the blood of Christians. And I'm okay with that. I'm glad that Jesus and I who loves Him are offensive to monsters.
