High over the Front
Guess the thread title is self explanatory.
Tweaked my old system and around an airfield I get between 60 FPS (looking straight up) to 20 FPS looking at my flight mates and the hangers.

Thought I had my system good until I got into a multi plane dogfight at low level over NML. Then it became a slide show that quickly resulted in my death...twice. I currently have all sliders at "1" except for the clouds and everything dialed down in the Workshop.

Went to the AppData and the configoverrides.xml file and gained about 6 FPS (reflected in the numbers above) turning off shadows. This file is chock full of settings and I suspect I can gain more if I knew what all the settings and numbers do in the sim to effect performance.

Any graphics guru ever dissected this file?
Any tips for numbers I can change (or things to turn off) to gain better performance?
Thanks.

Ankor's DirectX mod got me about 8 to 10 fps...maybe give it a try. Some users have got a frame rate boost from it, others, not:

It improves DirectX performance and adds shadows. You can turn off the shadows in-game by pressing the zero key on your keypad (not above the alpha keys)...double check this, but there is a way to turn off shadows and gain the DirectX conversion benefit. I think it is that DirectX 8 uses more system resources than DirectX 9.

Dogfighting is what you do "after" you drop your bombs and blow something up!

Unfortunately when I use any version of his mod, except the brand new August version which I haven't tried, WOFF locks up 50% of the time on start-up.

Tried something once I figured out the interplay between WOFF and the separate scenery folder.
Spent about 90 minutes resizing all the terrain textures making them smaller.
Preliminary tests are looking good both visually and FR wise.
Next is the clouds and then the real test - the campaign with all the bells and whistles in play.

I was also trying to tweak this File, but had no luck at all. Would be glad Duke, if you could find a Way. I always knew it has something to do with the Ground Textures, but I was unable to find the Problem.

Well the texture reducing experiment has been quite the success on my machine.
FR in combat is mid 30's. Amazing how much easier it is to fly and fight when it's not a slide show.

The only downside is it is quite time consuming to reduce all these textures when you can't batch convert with some paint programs. Least not on the free ones I have.
