To the other contributers, respect. This thread has been far more constructive than I had hoped. No yells of " go play War Thunder" Just IL2 Stalingrad wink , which as a founder Im happy to play.It is shaping up to be a excellent sim.

I believe it is a legitimate concern when a publisher provides a product in part. Namely a plane but without a theater or an adversary. I dont dislike the Sabre. I dont dislike the modular nature of the game. I just dislike the lazy way it is pitched to us.

For theaters, I still wait for the Nevada I paid for. Id much rather be waiting for an Iraq or Iran, Israel or Vietnam. Or a Korea. Somewhere where there has been action or where we could withhold our disbelief and be immersed in. Why they thought the community would want a training base more than a war theater is beyond me. The current map has potential particularly with the politics at present. But come on , its basically the same map as LOMAC. Move on!
At the very least a theater should be provided for iconic planes. A Sabre needs Korea. A Phantom needs Vietnam or the middle east. Same for the mig 21. Id love a sim of a Thud and a map of thud ridge. Instead we get, no we dont get Nevada.

I hope things do start coming together for DCS. Il keep watching and hoping that they will make a more reasoned product.

I think I very politely pointed you to a sim that seemed to suit your needs the most, even though unknowingly to me you already have it and like it.

You said, among other things, that you don't like the complexity. DCS is complex. Complexity doesn't make it better or worse than other sims. It just makes it DCS. If you see this as me being elitist, I'm sorry, but it's you that has an inferiority complex.

That's not what he said really…he said "The buttons becoming more important than AI or campaign immersion" and that has been echoed by many. Not that the complexity is an issue…just that complexity is the only focus…immersion takes a backseat completely and a sterile environment is the order of the day…and has been for years now. Throw in aircraft that are out of place against each other in a map world that has no historical value for the module…that seems to be his complaint.

... with occasional AI opponents that are worthless because the AI uses an arcade flight model. Again, there is so much that a few people think DCS doesn't have to bother doing because "it's DCS" pretty much.

If that's being polite I don't want to know what being impolite (as well as not having a superiority complex) means to you.

I look at what DCS is producing and I am disappointed. It seems to moving away from cohesion rather than towards it. It appears to be more like Microsoft Flight Simulator. The buttons becoming more important than AI or campaign immersion.

Ive played flight sims since the days of Pentium 2 with my vodoo2 graphics card and Total Air War. So not new here. To the " full real" crowd. All power to you , but cant you see whats happening to the hobby. How big was the manual for A10. Its realistic but to how many people is it fun. Ever less. Now the new Sabre, if it were packaged in Korea with a decent campaign Id get it. Id love to hear the radio message "planes over Sinuiju" again. I Used to love the radio calls in Mig Alley. But no , DCS Sabre is as sterile as its other projects and as cohesive.

I expect the next random plane in the series will be the highly desirable Fiat G91 and the next map probably New Zealand.I will like many vote with my wallet. But it makes me sad to see a producer so lost.

a very interesting point of view - thank you very much indeed for sharing it with us.

Where did I say that I'm better because I like DCS?

The OP clearly stated in the beginning about Mig Alley and is making comparisons since they both have the F-86's. You see someone that has legitimate gripes about it so you make a plea to the mods to shut this thread down? I imagine next will be phase 2 will where you start a flame war to try and get the thread locked?

The OP makes some valid points. It doesn't mean the thread needs to be locked down and deleted because you don't agree.

Yes, because I want a Korean war sim, or one with Vietnam era jets, or modern jets, I'm going to go to a WWII sim.

That suggestion is so off base that it defies explanation.

If you're unhappy with discussion about DCS on SimHQ, may I suggest www.cnn.com because that makes just as much sense. rolleyes

Oh look Force10 trying to correct me again... thank goodness for him.

You are right though... this is sooooo on topic with a DCS F-86F section... carry on... what are we talking about now? Oh yes, I love the movie Airplane!

Oh and PS, it would be legitimate grips if ED/BST claimed they were trying to remake MiG Alley... but semantics right?

[admin edit: no need to get personal]

The OP also stated "I Used to love the radio calls in Mig Alley. But no , DCS Sabre is as sterile as its other projects and as cohesive." Pretty much spot on and on topic for this release.

I would remain hopeful that the release of Edge will allow other areas to be worked on so we could have a kick ass Korean war sim…but I remain skeptical.

@FOrce10: Nice to see you too! wink

Also...
Guys, we've seen this movie already- It all goes on until a mod show up to put a bit of order, can we skip to that part immediately?

Agreed.

To stay on topic…does anyone not agree with points that were made by the OP? Lets just stick with that. Even though there are some ruffled feathers by some, I haven't seen anyone list any points on why what the OP pointed out wouldn't make DCS Sabre a better sim…for everyone.

Well of course it would be nice to have a full blown Korean environment... but the module is all about simulating the F-86F as true to real life as possible, not simulating Korea, or the forces there... Maybe some day someone will do a Korean map, and all the units for that era... but that isnt what this module is about.
