http://ilyamuromets.net/Surprised that a) it has started already and b) no one has mentioned it yet. The price is $20, which is about what you'd pay for a new bomber and map in Rise of Flight, so I'm in! Not big on the early access though, so I'll wait until it's released in October before installing.

So, except for the Russian bomber, all the airplanes are already available in ROF. How will it be different from being in a Gotha, or a O/400? I can't help wondering why a new sim was needed. Not trying to start a flame war, really.

Just had some fun flying the Marmoset online with someone else.
New things - Skins The Bomber A map All planes unlocked with mods A mission based campaign Good mouse based flight controls
Sure it would be nice if it was an expansion for ROF so the content was easy to access for current users, but I can see why it's been separated. It's being produced in cooperation with the Russian Military Historical Society. I assume this means they funded it and they probably wanted it to be separate. Adding mouse flight controls to current ROF would also cause friction with the current ROF community.

Yes standard joystick controls are present.
You can fly offline. Quick missions. There is a campaign. Don't know if all the levels are there, it shows 10, but need to play in order to unlock.

I can't help wondering why a new sim was needed. Not trying to start a flame war, really. To everyone who may be confused or uninformed, Ilya Muromets is a standalone product separate from ROF, but it uses the ROF engine. Why you ask? There are several reasons. 1. Because the Russian Military Historical Society funded its development so they deserve a standalone product and not simply an add-on to ROF. 2. Also, we are going to experiment with mouse-control and we did not want to upset the play balance if we got it wrong with ROF, so as a standalone we have a chance to experiment. 3. It also helped with media that this was a standalone product and not an add-on to a 5 year old sim. 4. And it helps with retail buyers and digital websites. Bonus Question: Why the ROF engine and not the BOS engine? Answer: Because we had limited time and budget and the ROF engine is geared for WWI physics and the GUI is complete. Easier to bring to market and still keep the ROF look and feel we like for WWI. Some friendly advise. If you want to play Western Front play ROF. If you want Eastern Front launch IM. Simply think of it as a part of the ROF universe with a separate .exe. This was an unforeseen positive opportunity for us as a studio, so we jumped at the chance to make this product and work with our RHMS partner whose idea it was to build this sim. We should be happy any third party organization wishes to invest in such a niche project about World War One. Fly and have fun! Anybody know if Pat Wilson is planning on working his campaign magic on this one? Regardless, I found myself unable to resist and bit the bullet as well. Looking forward to trying this one out tonight!
