I used to use FRAPS. It worked pretty good but the constant writing to the hard drive tends to slow most peoples systems down a bit. It's easy to lose 20 FPS when recording with even a fast HD.

Now I use Shadowplay, but that's only available on higher end Geforce cards. Works awesome though if you've got rent money to throw away on a video card.

I used so many, but the best by far is the "free" Shadowplay (except you cannot hide the recording indicator when taking screenshots aaaarg). I say free as Hellshade mentions you need to pay out for a decent Nvidia card
GeForce TITAN, GTX 700, GTX 600, GeForce GTX 800M, GTX 700M, select GTX 600M

I used
D3dgear
Fraps
PlayClaw
Bandicam
DXtory
Action

and more - all of them have problems in some regard.

Fraps for example can show an on screen icon for recording, but if you want to remove it during recording you have to press the button 5 times to cycle it off, and back to on in the same corner of the screen. Nuts. I asked the author if he could make it just a simple on/off toggle but he refused at least twice wink. Also recording is raw so files are enormous. This is tricky if you need quite a lot of footage to go through so end up keeping Hard drives full of stuff until you no longer need it.

Playclaw was great nice on screen /on fly config menu but has some quirks with CFS3 sound.

Bandicam needs you use a certain DX swap method with DX games (maybe it will work better with DX mod now?)

D3DGear was about the best of the software ones for me. Forgot what the downside was so far.

Shadow play however is the ultimate.

Pol, that program is from GeForce - does it work also with ATI graphic cards?
(Maybe that's a stupid question, but SOMEone had to ask it, I guess... biggrin )

Sorry Olham. It only works with the Nvidia cards Pol mentioned.

Okay, thanks! I'll stay with FRAPS then. Served me good.

oops, wrong thread...

While I'm here, is there much file conversion to be done in order to post a video online?

MudWasp, you can edit it if you want with something like Windows Movie Maker, but YouTube will usually do the converting for you when you upload your file. It can take a while to finish, though smile

I downloaded it and got it to work. Needed new drivers too. It is nice having broadband.
Yikes, my 5 minute 39 second video is 1.16GB !!!!!

Guess I need a youtube account to upload the video to, before I can post it here. Files that size will eat up monthly alotment for satellite braodband. Can't remember if I used medium or high quality. It sure looked sweet when I viewed it in windows media player.
