Hello,

After buying WOFF, I've started a campaign, on french side, begining in 1915, in Alsace, passed the training (what a chore), and after that I was transfered to the front line.
What an excitement I thought.
But I have flown 6 patrol missions and I haven't met any single enemy aircraft.
No enenmy in sight. No gunfire. No action. Nothing.
I'm just flying boring missions, flying over some battlefield, always the same spot. Always the same mission. And no action. No enemy.

What can I do to spice up my campaign? I want action. I want to shoot germans.
Help me.

I'm playing on Medium aircraft density and historical mission type. No mods. Clean game.

The early air war had very few planes up in the sky, Hobomaniac. If you wish to see a lot more Germans, try starting a campaign later in the war. 1917, 1918. Someone with history knowledge than I can probably recommend an Allied squadron, month and year to join that will let you see plenty of action.

Have no fear my friend. There will be plenty of action up in the skies. WOFF does an outstanding job of modeling it.

If you want to fly French then you might try Esc 3, one of the premier French squads that was often in the thick of things. But as you move back in time the skies thin out as Hellshade mentioned. By Sept or Oct of 1916 things should pick up for you with the introduction of the Albatros DII. The earlier you push back into 1916 the more slim the pickings and in 1915, not much (which is historically accurate). Also stay as far north as you can when flying French. The Alsace region is always slow, and Verdun has spotty action. In your mission preambles it will tell you where the major battles are so always transfer as close as possible for more action (within the confines of the country you're flying for).

Yeah, Alsace is a beautiful region...but tends towards quiet. Especially early in the war everyone's flying in Flanders.

Welcome over Flanders fields, Hobomaniac!

The real air war with single seat fighters involved began only in 1916.
The early areas of heavier fighting were the battle of the Somme, and the fighting for Verdun.
If you want to fly as a French and "shoot Germans", I recommend the Verdun area in spring or summer 1916.

You can generally say, that the air war will get busier and harder from month to month - 1918 is hell
in many areas, and the aircraft have devolped from Fokker Eindecker or Morane Parasol, to Fokker D.VII
and SPAD XIII - huge differences.

So if you enlist a new pilot, click on the "Manual enlistment" button in the lower right corner;
then select flying for France, and flying a fighter.
Now you can go through all the fighter units, or Escadrilles, you have in WOFF.
You can click the time arrows for years, months and even days with every unit, and thereby see,
where they were based, when they moved elsewhere, which planes they had at each time,
which morale and aces etc. etc.

That way, you should be easily able to find yourself a good unit, area and time, where you can go
and "shoot Germans". biggrin
Enjoy it (but take care: they'll shoot back)!

PS: If you send me a PM with your town and country, I will add you to our OFF Forum Pilots Maps.

1915 will be very quite air wise ..you need really to start in '16..it gets really busy 17 and 18.

...reminds me of my Transfer from MFJ1 in the beautiful, laid back Oostende, flying Fokker EIIIs, to Jagdstaffel 5. On my first Mission there I honestly thought:
"What Idiot has ordered 12 Planes to fly around on the same spot simultaneously?!? As if the Front isn't big enough or what ?!?"
2 Minutes later I could see why... jawdrop
I still consider it being pure coincidence, that all 12 were able to land again...

Okay.
I'll try to experiment with different stages and dates.
Because flying 6 missions in a row where nothing happens, it's 6x90mn=540mn=9 hours of flying in formation.
I cannot stand it anymore.

Hi Hobomaniac,

1915 is a bit quiet.
As others have suggested, start a career in, say, 1916.
I would suggest more specifically that you select a squadron
like 24 (DH2s).
In the early part of 1916 you'll be up against E111s, all well and good.
But from September? Oh dearie me!

Have fun
