get it at CombatAce.com

From the ReadMe:

This is a major overhaul of Thirdwires stock Germany terrain for Strike Fighters 2 Europe.
This mod includes Starys wonderfull GermanyCE hires terrain textures V3 with some small tweaks like grey painted roads or different river colors and a few new tiles.
All airfields has been modified with new buildings . A couple are made from scratch.
Try out Florians Pferdsfeld or Büchel airbases if you fly for the Nato. They are outstanding! Try Drewitz or Marxwalde or Gerwin field airfields if you are fighting for the Red side .
Lots of strike targets has been modified or moved into towns. Hamburg and Wismar got real harbours and you find new objects all over the terrain.
I also included hi ho silver's new city night textures and a modified ENVIRONMENTSYSTEM.INI as additional install if you want to fly night missions that looks like real nights.
Special thanks to Ravenclaw_007 and 76.IAP-Blackbird. Both made some objects i realy needed for this rework and supported me to create this mod. Another Special thank to Gepard for his German airfields mod.
And a special thank to Florian who made the best looking airfields i've ever seen in any Sim!
And i want to thank all creators who made all the great objects i used for this mod. Without your work i would never had started this project.
Thank you all!

It is. And, along with some other mods, it's the straw that finally bogged down my machine to make my Europe campaign a slideshow. I need to upgrade with more RAM and get flying again.

Hello!
Intel Q8200 quad core stock@2.3GHZ(?), 4GB of DDR1333 , GTX560 , Win7 64bit, 7200rpm SATA HD, onboard sound.

The machine is ok for most of my games, but Arma3 needs some more power for larger engagements. And SF2 slows down when there are lots of planes in the air, especially when flying some newer Hi-Def user made planes.
I think I would see some improvements with a new CPU/more RAM.

What do you think?

Arthur that is really smilar to setup I made alot of my mods on, the HD skins might be the culprit as was in my case -one does not really need 4096^ skins on planes so try lowering these out; if you use my terrain/tree mods, either try objectsfade=true or my fading in distance tweaks posted at CA few times (last in 2012 I think) or play with flightengine.ini and check DetailMeshSize= to reduce trees popup distances.

After my mobo died (fried?) I switched to 8 GB and that gave me a bit of boost to memory might be an issue too. That said the good ol trick of "load mission, quit instantly, reload" should work on your 4GB

and I just noticed your specs in your sig, sorry! I don't pay attenton to what people have there biggrin

currently at the modding hiatus, but eager to return to SF2

Never heard that one. I will give it a try along with DetailMeshSize= . Thanks.

yeah it's been adviced by some members as solution fot those with less memory, caches stuff sort of, I remember I had used that too in some cases /heavily modded installs

The mod looks great, but I was thinking why modders don't use photorealistic textures but still these square Thirdwire style textures? Are there some limitations?

yes or no.

This one I wanted to keep the default layout and feel of, while for example my Israel terrain mod uses high resolution satellite photos (or Brain32's Vietnam one)

That said TW's engine uses unique "randomy rotating at placement" tiles system which limits toa degree usage of photorealistic textures and reduces usable tile space (all sides must match the otehr tile's sides exactly)

Ah I get now. I remember some time ago, I think it was for SF1:Europe mod with that type textures, so is this any way to connect that old mod with this one from this topic?

ps. Ok I found that old mod, it was Brain32:

totally different layout of textures and objects placement sadly, you'd get all stuff in wrong places

Ok thanks anyway, one question is there a chance to make this old mod to work in SF2?

Try this lower res terrain texture:

Hope it helps.

Thank you! Yes, that helped quite a bit. Very playable framerates now, even with a busy campaign.

I think I'll still try to lower the plane skins' resolutions, because that new Mirage F-1 still bogs things down severely at the beginning of a mission.
Do I need to manually resize the skins, or is there a .ini setting I can change?

resize manually, the ingame downsizing still keeps the full bitmap in video memory (plus a downsized one)

Over the hills and far away.
Look for a program called Batch Image Resizer, it does the job fast and good!
