S! All,

In case people don't check the ROF boards regularly, I wanted to post this over here at SimHQ:

http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=349&t=43411

FIF XIX is looking to start in early August.

Quote:

S! All,

Back in the heady days of Red Baron 3D, Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG1) developed and operated a tournament known as Flanders In Flames (FIF).

Now, in collaboration with the No.42 Squadron, the Black Haze (Jasta 7 & 16b), the Wing Walkers and Jasta 5, JG1 has developed a new Flanders In Flames Online War designed to fit the strengths and capabilities of Rise of Flight!

FIF has always been about providing participants with the most realistic campaign experience possible. This continues today. Emphasis is placed on creating historically inspired dogfights and aircraft match-ups. Two-seater missions are thus vital.

The current FIF tournament is hosted on the No.42 Squadron server on Wednesdays at 8:45PM EDT until 11:00PM EDT.

FIF forums, in turn, are hosted by JG1.

Unfortunately, there is no European FIF as of this post (22 July 2014). However, this is something that JG1 is currently working on with the help of our European-based Jasta 6!

In it's current format, the North American-version of FIF is an almost continuous "dead-is-dead" event. Each FIF event is a set of 4 to 6 Wednesday-night sessions, often with a two or three week break afterwards. FIF then starts again with a new map location, different types of targets and a new plane-set.

To see the current FIF rules, click here. We are currently working on Slovak, Russian and French versions.

FIF currently has room for an additional 15 to 20 dedicated pilots who are comfortable with our North American timezones.

These pilots can be members of an established squadron, or unsquaded freelancers.

All interested pilots:

  • Need to have and be able to use TeamSpeak3.
  • Are encouraged to have TrackIR or FreeTrack (as no externals are allowed).

More information regarding the next FIF tournament will be posted over the coming weeks.

For now, please feel free to post below with any questions you may have, and definitely check out the Central and Entente sign-up threads over on the JG1 boards.

Please note that there is a two-part process after sign up.

  • New pilots will need to participate in a basic skills event, called an "FIF Shakedown".
  • New pilots will also need to take part in basic "FIF orientation", coordinated by their team.

This is make sure everyone understands how the tournament handles big issues like team coordination, squadron tactics and tournament rules.

Hope to see you all in the air soon!

S! All,

Just a quick FIF update.

FIF XIX concluded last night with an Entente victory.

The official results have been posted here:

http://forum.jg1.org/index.php?showtopic=2475

Overall, the campaign was excellent fun, with around 40 people each mission night!

Congrats again to the Entente team for their outstanding victory.

Looking forward to FIF XX!

Hey, cool!

FiF in RB3D was one of two events one just didn't miss (the other being the Red Baron World League), as it was run fairly with good balance in plane sets and objectives - sides "win" each mission night based on their ability to organize and work as a team to achieve objectives.

The big thrill is that if one is killed one's out for the evening....and seriously pranging an aircraft on landing could have one relegated to hopping in a gunner's seat or flying from another aerodrome or even type of aircraft, as each is restricted by number.

Early war FiF's are pretty simple in this regard, as usually it's only one or two types, but sometimes it can get a bit edgy. The Entente may have a lot of Nieuport 17's but only a handful of SPAD VII's....with the bad guys having a lot of Albatross D.II's but only a few DIII's.

Does one hog up one of the few Camels, knowing that it's a great fighter but that if one wrecks it the mission night could be lost, or does one pass it up to let someone who's better at it take it? Do you throw yourself headlong into the enemy, knowing it might make for a very short night of flying, or do you avoid the fight if the odds are too high?

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

Looks like a Great time!
It pains me that I can't fly multiplayer, but I'll make do.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the kind thoughts! You guys are both more than welcome to join us.

Here is the most recent announcement regarding FIF XX. It's on the ROF boards:

The FIF XIX campaign was a big success!

We had upwards of 40+ people on the server each week. And when these numbers were combined with our two extremely organized teams, combat was intense. I think everyone who participated had a really great time.

We are now starting to prepare for a new campaign for the Fall 2014 season - Flanders In Flames XX (FIF XX).

Currently, here is our timetable:

  • Wednesday, 8 October - orientation for new pilots
  • Wednesday, 15 October - dry run / final map test
  • Wednesday, 22 October - event start

As with our past campaigns, FIF XX will be hosted on the No.42 Squadron server. The FIF forums, in turn, are hosted by JG1.

FIF XX will be held during North American-timezones. We're still working on a European-friendly version, so our apologies to anyone left out due to the bad time of day.

Meanwhile, the current FIF XX plane-set is available here.

And definitely check out the Central and Entente sign-up threads over on the JG1 boards.

Hope to see you all in the air soon!
