Interesting movie by an unlikely "new" producer, it is Hollywood but find it entertaining after knowing the real history:

I'm reading the book right now. I'm excited to see more interest via a movie.

Too bad the story of The Lady be Good never got attention.

If you haven't read it, pick up the book. It will really give you one hell of a perspective of what went on for POWs in Japan.

Re: Lady Be Good - wasn't there a film in the 50s or 60s based on that?

ETA: Yes, it was called "Sole Survivor". There was also a Twilight Zone episode based on it called "King Nine Will Not Return".

I believe this is the directorial debut for Angelina Jolie.

she actuually directed a well reviewed movie about a muslim woman that falls in love with a serbian soldier, can't recall the name, though.

Edit: The movie was called In the Land of Blood and Honey

Yes, I remember there was a lot of talk about that one. Never saw it, but it's not my type of film.

I would love to see a movie on the Ploesti Raid.

I would as well but it would never be made by a Hollywood studio unfortunately. Why?

1. Probably 95% of Americans have no clue what the Ploesti bombing raids were.
2. Military aviation films in general do poorly at the box office (Top Gun was a big exception).

However, I could see maybe a cable channel doing a miniseries based on the Ploesti raids.

Louis Zamperini died last week. I had not heard about the book/movie until I read his obituary. Sounds like an amazing story.

"Unbroken" is one of the top 3 books I've ever read, maybe #1.

Read it, you won't be able to put it down.

I agree. Powerful book.

I hope the movie does it justice.
