I have found a SAm quite far away from me, not threatening just yet. I would like to scan for stuff close to me. Is there a way I can save what I am currently looking at as a waypoint or a point of interest and return to it later?

Thanks,

For that you need to create a mark point. They are lettered, instead of numbered, from A to Y (Z is usually overwritten but a markpoint set to where-ever you drop a bomb or launch a missile.

I can't remember off hand which button it is but I think it might be TMS right long? Then you need to set the CDU to Mark Point mode. If you make the HUD SOI, you can cycle through them like waypoints. If you use the TAD, setting the CDU to Mark Point mode removes the waypoints displayed on the TAD and it instead shows Mark Points. You can easily slew your cursor over one and make it the SPI again.

TMS right (short) will drop a mark point on your SPI. You can then switch the CDU to "mark" mode (as opposed to mission or flight plan) and cycle through your mark points.

Here's a video that talks about mark points:

You can also use the CDU in to triangulate SAMs based on their RWR signatures. I've tried the method below and it works quite well.

Thanks for the 2nd video. These are quite useful, beats the heck out of the guessing.
