.. in 1969 it did anyhow.. Wonder nobody posted this historic launch it was a good day..I do have a recording of the launch I play on my Subwoofer but it is very pale in comparison too how it had must have really sounded (Felt).. IT was down to Zero Hz really Ultra Low Frequency..

I hope someday I get to see a launch or more so feel it..

My office wall puzzles date me...

I remember going to Cape Canaveral in '77, the Apollo missions were still remembered while the Shuttle was all the rage. Made quite an impression on this 10 year old, exciting times.

Exciting times indeed!
I went to Cape Canaveral about the same time mid-70s and I will never forget it. I thought that by the 1990s we would have been to Mars and had a permanent moon station.

I can still remember some of the Apollo astronauts by name from memory: Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins, Mattingly, Sweikert, Borman, Lovell, Slaton ...
When I was ten I could name them all.

The grand adventure of the 20th Century! Was 13yrs old at the time and watched it live on a fuzzy B&W tv.

btw, there's a good documentary somewhere on utube (I'll try to find) of the warning light that came on during the LEM's lunar decent that almost aborted the mission. The cool part is how they determined that the indicator really didn't mean much.

I feel so old. Was such an exciting time for a young guy during the Viet Nam war to watch all this
happen live. Was 8 years old and could not have been more excited in my life at that time.

Not a utube, but a good read on 1201 / 1202 program alarms:

Long before my mom retired as a Certified Novell Administrator for the FAA she was an Avon Lady. And this was one of my favorite games...

Favorite place to eat was Piccadilly, back when they looked like this...

...to get the "Satellite Plate". The plate was divided into three sections, each section had a picture of something space related (astronaut space walking, rocket launching, and of course a satellite).

Space references were everywhere, one reason I'm studying today from my original HS math books (copyright 1974/78)...

"Review Capsule". LOL. Nostalgia can be very motivating.

Yep, it was the 1201 and 1202 alarms. Here's the flight control loop of the landing. It's an awesome listen. You can sense the tension and anticipation in their voices. The 1202 happens at the 24 minute mark, and the 1201 at 28 minutes. You get to hear GUIDO Steve Bales consult his backroom on what the 1202 program alarm was and then make the call, "We're...We're GO on that Flight!"

A11 Flight Control Loop

Also, you can go here to listen to the whole PAO loop for the mission: https://archive.org/details/Apollo11Audio The PAO tapes start at 155-AAA. You'll have to scroll down a bit. The first series of tapes, the ones that start with 11-03301, are onboard tapes.

I remember it very well. My parents and I were on holiday in a camping trailer in the central part of the province. Dad had a TV antenna lashed to the top of big old spruce tree so we could get 1 channel (CBC) on a tiny (maybe 10-12 inch) 12 volt B&W TV that weighed about 30 lbs biggrin

I still have this memory even though I was only 4 years old. It was my big sisters birthday party. I remember watching Walter Cronkite on the TV when the lunar module landed. I remember the whole house was full of people watching. I remember grown men weeping. I remember my uncle pointing up to the moon and trying to explain to me what was happening.

Still the most awesome thing Man has ever done!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I was 17 and drove to the country club to join a bunch of friends watching it on a big cabinet color TV. Alan Shepard's flight was my intro to a dream, and I watched that in our school auditorium, barely able to see the tiny TV on stage. Thought we would have a moon base by now for sure.

I was born only a few days before the launch so my mother saved that week's issue of NEWSWEEK for me. There is a long essay that attempts to capture all facets of public opinion including people who believed the mission was a huge of resources that could have been spent on the poor or fixing eroding cities. Other news items within are about race riots, military policy in Vietnam, etc., and puts the launch in context.

I am proud that I was born a few weeks before America's 200th Birthday, but if I had to be born earlier, I would definitely want to be born early enough to watch and stand in amazement and pride as they landed on the moon.

Docu drama called "the earth to the moon"...fantastic.

Also, the turbo pumps to feed Saturn's five F1 rockets... 275,000 horsepower. Just for the pumps!

That's more power than the nuclear aircraft carrier Enterprise has at full steam!
