PKumar, NickMow, thanks for your comments thumbsup

I’m surprised (and flattered!) that this thread is still getting views. So as a small 'thank you!' here's the first of a couple of updates from D-Day Duxford ... smile2

The Patrouille Acrobatique de France aerobatics team celebrates the liberation of their nation with smoke and fancy moves ..

Originating in 1931 they are the oldest national aerobatic demonstration team – respect!

Wow.

Not a single picture in here that's "just okay". Excellent work and fun commentary (love the guy on the Apache).

Hi RSColonel, thanks for your comments - that's because I'm only sharing the good 'uns hahaha I assure you I take my fair share of cr*p photos as well ... biggrin

The 'Apache man' made me smile too - complete fluke that I happened to press the shutter button at just the right moment.

Cheers

I never share my bad pics either, but the skill is to have one in 20 or one in 40 that is worth posting (sharp + well framed + well exposed) and to have enough material at the end of the day, not just one or two lucky results.

You seem to be doing alright there.

Thanks RSColonel_131st - I do my best smile

On with the last update to this thread from me ..

On the ground the modern British Army shows off some of it’s kit ..

You won’t find the Husky on your average Company Car list ..

Maybe I’m just getting old, but soldiers are looking very young these days ..

Firepower!

“OK, I want you to put down suppressive fire on that ice cream van ..”

Business end of a gimpy ..

SA80A2 assault rifle (can’t remember the name of the new sight fitted to this example, but the image quality and brightness is a huge improvement on the old SUSAT, which was revolutionary in its day) ..

Jackal 2 ..

Landrover RWMIK ..

Very large and very scary gold fish!

Filtration and aeration equipment needed to keep the goldfish’s tank clean (you should see the size of the fish net they use!) ..

Royal Engineers layout their demolition gear..

Didn’t know they used castor oil as a cutting agent in their shaped charges ..

105mm light field gun ..

May be just a little too heavy on the foundation and blusher ..

Air drop-able fuel bladder with Bloodhound anti-aircraft missile in the background ..

Red Devil coming into land ..

Hidden away in a corner of one of Duxford’s hangers is a reminder from the First World War – this contraption is a field periscope, as used by the German army.

Foxhound ..

And finally my very own ‘foxhound’, Puskas (pronounced ‘push-cash’) - a seven year old Hungarian Viszla. “Puskas” means gunner or hunter in Hungarian, as well as being the surname of the ‘Galloping Major’, who helped beat England 6 goals to 3 at Wembley in 1953:

Wearing the lion main wig we bought her for Christmas (‘Oh, the indignity of it!’):

I won’t be updating this post any more, but will be starting a new thread soon featuring shots I took at the recent air show at RAF Waddington (one of Puskas’s many nicknames is “Waddo”!).

Thanks for looking and all the comments / feedback smile

Is that not the Merlin engined Hispano Buchon that is based at Duxford?

PS. Flateric, great pics and thanks for sharing them thumbsup

Hi Alicatt, you're welcome matey smile

Yes, you're absolutely correct - the two 'Me109s' are actually Spanish built Hispano HA-1112 Buchons (license built Me109s with Rolls Royce Merlins). The one in the Battle of Britain style camouflage is owned by the Aircraft Restoration Company and is based at Duxford - see this link for more information:

http://www.arc-duxford.co.uk/aircraft/buchon/

The one in desert camouflage is owned (I think) by Richard Lake and is based at Humberside Airport.

Cheers smile
