Regardless of if you use the PRO clip or the hat clip you look a bit weird. Is there a way to use TrackIR without looking like an alien?

Wear the passive reflector clip attached to a grey ball cap or visor. It won't stand out so much.

Or, modify a ball cap or visor to have IR LEDs (in the proper wavelength) mounted on the cap itself, and powered up by a small battery pack. You'll want to get the geometry right on it, also. A Google or Bing search would probably turn up the necessary information on that.

It's tough being a simmer.

I went to Sainsbury's shopping once with my TrackIr dot stuck to my forehead. I wondered why the checkout lady was looking at me funny.

Oh come on! Just accept your inner geek.
Trying to hide the TIR reflective antlers is just like trying to hide baldness with a comb-over: it doesn't work and just tells everyone you have a complex about it.
Embrace the simmer in you and wear the reflectors with pride! biggrin

PS. on a more serious note, Natural Point used to make a ballcap which had the reflector built-in, but if I recall it's just the one reflector on the tip of the cap so it may have been discontinued.

At least you no longer have to put a reflective dot on your forehead like the older TIRs IIRC....

They sell the reflector stickers, you could put them on your headphones.
I tried it once on some glasses and it worked, but didn't have very much tolerance for turning my head. Could remedy that with a good profile.
The glasses are some sports/riding/sunglasses with changeable lenses with a clear option, so they have thicker frames.

Most of my friends (non-pc gamers) actually think it's kind of cool and it usually strikes up a conversation. After I tell them what it is and what it does they're usually amazed that such a thing exists lol

But yeah, I use a designated hat that I just hang next to my PC, so I never go out in public with it; that could be little awkward

You could get 3 of those small black file clips, put them on the brim with the stickers. It would at least be a little less obvious. Not sure if the lack of depth on the middle one would hurt too bad, but I think it works ok if you can set the sensitivity high enough without interference behind you.

Face it fellows, the mere act of flying a pretend plane on ones computer, and using a HOTAS to do it, makes us look like idiots to the rest of the world. A fact that I am perfectly okay with.

I'm a closet simmer, I'll never admit to it in public. I'd even make fun of someone who does smile

I embedded reflective spheres onto the brim of a visor :), I had a Box of sports visors in the closet.. so...

Might give LEDs a shot, as I think the sun interferes with the reflective components sometimes.

imply put, take a visor (you know a visor):

Run 2 LEDs to each front side edge of the brim, then run 1 to the top of the front of the visor.

Way to go, Skate, you went from looking silly just because you had the TIR reflectors on it to looking silly even WITHOUT the TIR reflectors on it! neaner

FACT: You can not wear a visor and not look absurd.

What kind of LEDs would you use? I think that is an awesome idea.

And, what, as long as the voltages on the LEDs are in the 1.5V range you can get away with a AAA, without having to resort to anything funky.

Yeah, because nobody looks goofy wearing an O.R. .... biggrin

Well, while you're wearing one, you can't see the other people giving you funny looks, so there's that, at least...

wink

If I'm wearing the Pro clip without headphones, I have it attached to a baseball cap that I cut a slit into the side of, which I then wear backwards. That way the brim doesn't interfere with the receiver.
