Hi Guys,
I was wondering whether Wings Over Flanders Fields is a better combat sim than Rise of Flight. I am considering buying WOFF.
Thanks

Paul, Nothing, and IMHO, nothing, beats WOFF for a WWI flight sim. Shiloh says it pretty well, and I cannot stress enough the support from the forum and the Devs. Always willing to help with any problems. Oh, by the way, we also have some friendly "campaigns" among ourselves that are a real blast. Come on in , the water is fine!

^^ What they said.
Both sims have their strong points and weak points, but for me, the robust AI and fully functional dynamic campaigns are what tips the balance in WOFF's favor.
I think the money invested in WOFF will be well worth it, Paul. If you're even remotely a fan of WWI, or of flight sims in general, WOFF is a must buy(so is ROF).

Welcome over Flanders fields, Paul! I know both sims, and both have their good sides and their bad ones. If you are searching for the most immersive single-player campaigns ever, with a deep richness of historical detail and countless ace aircraft skins, then the choice is definitely "Wings over Flanders Fields". For multiplayer, RoF is a good choice.
Both sims are quite different, so my tip, if you have the money: buy them both!

The nature of the answer you get is going to be heavily influenced by the forum that you ask it on. If you ask the same question on the Rise of Flight forums, of course they are highly likely to tout the reasons why they prefer RoF over WOFF. Asking here then, one should not be surprised to find the majority of responses push WOFF to be the "better" product.
I fly them both. WOFF does have the advantage of active Developer support and, in my personal opinion, the AI is fantastic in making you feel like you are flying against real people who want to live. Sometimes they are novices and sometimes you are in the fight of your life. You won't know until the bullets start flying. For me personally, WOFF is my go to sim if I am looking for single player fun.
On the other hand, RoF has native MP support and, while the developers have been pretty quiet for awhile, Pat Wilson has put together a great mod that offers a fun single player campaign experience.
If you want to see what it's like flying in each sim, I have a few videos on my youtube site listed at the bottom of my sig. It will at least give you some idea of what the air combat is like.

Same as Hellshade, I fly both. Considering WW1 flight sims are a very small niche, we are lucky to have two fine sims to fly, each with its own qualities.
Gigabyte Z87P-D3 - CPU I5 4670 Haswell @ 3.6Ghz - 8 Go Ram - GPU HD 7850 2Go OC - SSD Samsung 128Go - HD 2 x WD Black 1 To - 27" Iiyama Pro Lite - Logitech Extreme 3D Pro - Saitek Pro Flight Yoke - Rudder Pedals - Quadrant - Cessna Trim Wheel - Track IR 5 - Logitech G35 headset ... and a big coffee maker ! Flying in FSX/Air Hauler, Wings over Flanders Fields, Rise of Flight, IL2 1946 Hsfx, Condor soaring.

I have both..and enjoy them for different reasons. It really depends on 'how you play' as to which one I fly.
If I want a quick dogfight, I tend to use ROF (though with QC in WOFF...this isn't necessary)...but even with the Campaign mod for ROF..it doesn't come close to WOFF in my opinion.
And with literally thousands of Skins (probably just about all you'd ever need)...you'll feel like a first world war pilot in no time...which ROF, nice as it is...just can't quite mimic
