About to start building a button panel which I'd like to use for all generations of IL2. I just opened COD to get an idea of the number of Key Presses to buttons I'd need and felt swamped. Which plane has 8 engines and needs carburettor heaters for each?

I'd like to make a panel which can accommodate four engines though in every day play I would fly one and two engine a/c. My question is this:

Does anyone have a list of absolutely neccesary buttons list for a two engined button panel?

Thanks for any thoughts and input.

Cheers,

Flying Colander

The option for "8 engines planes" are for "the future" - that dont happen... frown

Actually you have 2 engines planes, with option to control "carburettor heaters" individually or together.

BTW - Carburettor heater - since the CloD "Ice Age" are removed by TF patchs, was bugged in some official patch - dont have too much use, maybe in hight altitude flight.

Some controls, like Landing Gear can by set in the dumb "G - toggle mode" or in separated keys for Lower and Raise.

Some controls, like turn ON/OFF magnetos (ON have only cosmetic effect - no practical use) have two modes:
"Toggle Switch" in British planes and "Rotary switch" on German/Italian planes. The first mode dont work for German planes and vice-versa.

In short, the fact that controls list "999" options dont mean that is need almost all.
For example a Spitfire need ~35/40 keys to fly in "full switch".

In ATAG Flight School is listed what is need to set for each plane.

The blamed CloD controls - despite some flaws - is the most flexible that I see in Flight Simulator (In true I dont know the X-Plane one), you can use keys or button as modifier for other buttons (minus POV HAT) and AXIS. For example I can use joystick Y (elevator) axis as "Park Brakes" modified with a key or button.

Is possible replicate the operation of Hurricane "H" LG/Flap "shifter":

Sokol to the rescue -- again! Thanks, mate.

That was exactly what I was looking for. Good explaination of COD and its button issues.

(PS: What 8 engined monster plane were they planning?)
