The Engine Room
Design work began in 1947.

From the drawing boards of Roy Chadwick and Stuart Davies - designers of the Lancaster.

First flew in 1952.

Entered service in 1956.

Held the record for the longest distance bombing raid - a total distance of 7,778 miles - from 1982-2003.

Retired from service in 1984.

The nuclear bomber that handled like a fighter.

Named after the Roman god of fire.

The Avro Type 698... better known as the Vulcan

An extraordinary aircraft flown by extraordinary crews. Famous of course for the Black Buck raids in 1982, but less well known are its exploits at Red Flag and its successful penetration of US airspace during Operation Sky Shield I and Sky Shield II.

Beautiful pics! I love the pit view towards the end. It screams clandestine.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It is indeed the Iris Vulcan for FSX. A bit long in the tooth now but still the best - and indeed only - FSX native Vulcan.

Mace, I know it's a Vulcan, but I wanted to know who made it for FSX :-p

Intresting plane the Vulcan....

If the plane is going to crash..the pilot and co-pilot have ejection seats...the navigator and any other crew members...well, it was nice knowing you guys...you go down with the ship since they do not have escape means built in.

You're kidding.. eek

I guess if you are the navigator/bombardier or whatever you get real chummy with your maintainers and make sure they are happy. biggrin

I thought they did have a means of escape but it wasn't easy and in a low altitude emergency it would be game over anyway.

Nice screens Pielstick yep

I had the pleasure of watching The Red Arrows,Concorde and a Vulcan all in formation at an air-show once notworthy

The AEO and Nav had parachutes, but not ejection seats. They were supposed to perform and old school bail out.
