Well I did not run into Bryant last night, though Betty Anne or Bobby Sue did. Gotta get me another laser.

I feel like the kid who showed up for class not knowing there was a test and everyone else did. What is this game and type of game is it?

Well... the best way to put it is:

Did you play the original Elite (1984)? It's a sequel of the sequel of the sequel that choose to re image the Original.

Ehe... maybe that WASN'T the best way to put it.
All in all is a sandbox styled space game with the whole Galaxy for us to travel. Countable around four hundred billion star systems.

You start with a small spaceship and carve your path in the universe whichever way you want.

The initial release see the player stuck to the ship. You can embark many jobs or careers but only land in space stations or dock to bigger ships.
Two main paid expansions will allow us to land on each and every planet and explore the ships/stations/planets/whatever in FPS styled control.

Typing on the smartphone and fighting autocorrect is making my blood boiling. I'll leave the rest to the other early Beta version players.

I'm really liking the look of this game.

I know it's a beta, but exactly how much of it can be played offline? I'm sorely tempted to buy it but will probably be away at the end of the month and if I go where I think I'm going I'm not going to have much in the way of internet access.

@Bisher: LOL. Looking forward to seeing you drink a container of Changoan Special Fire-Water Red Ring Liquor.

@Pielstick: As of now it's purely online with just an handful of Single Player non-connected missions for quick testing of specific functions.

The final release will be completely tailorable in regards to Multiplayer action.

An internet connection is always strongly recommended as Frontier servers provide a dynamic background simulation of the socio-econo-political side of the Galaxy.

That doesn't force you to have other human players.
Seriously this alone is a groundbreaking feature.

You can literally handpick the people you want to share your galaxy with.

Bugger.

Sailing around very hot, sandy, oil rich parts of the world in a big grey ship isn't conducive to having access to a decent net connection on my laptop. frown

Well... since it's Digital Delivery only (unless you're a Kickstarter backer), that alone puts you in a tight corner... mind you, you can still play it offline.
You'll have 3 character slots once the game launch... nothing prevents you to use one strictly off-line when on a boat and the second one when on terra-firma...

Put big guns on your big grey ship (if they aren't there already) and hold some country hostage until they put in a great WiFi tower connection for passing maritime traffic biggrin

Glad I could help.

For the record I was born in 1990. Elite is something I had never even heard of until I saw the kickstarter for ED. I hope that makes you all feel incredibly old.

I have a feeling it'll be doing that a lot, bringing newcomers to a long stagnant series.

1990? I bought my 1st PC in 1990. To play Wing Commander. And M1 Tank Platoon. And Ultima VII. And LHX Attack Chopper. And BoB: Their Finest Hour.

Good times.
