Yep, the British and French are at it again.

Napoleon - Total War

I'm still impressed with the amount of detail in this game

Marching out

Looking worried

Rightly so, here come the cuirassiers

It may be an ancient weapon but a sword still cuts

Highlanders try to save the day

Les Grognards

The charge breaks the British lines and they retreat in disarray

Last pic:

"Jolly good battle don't you think?"

"Indeed good sir!"

"Well, have at you then!"

"I couldn't fight a gentleman with such a clear taste for fashion! The yellow is stunning!"

"Oh why thank you sir! And I must say, your steed looks like quite the hard charger!"

etc, etc, until both sides take a break for tea.

I've just recently re-installed and it is my favourite TW game. Love the line fire and bayonet charges.

I read recently though that hand to hand bayonet fighting did not happen. Men that would stand a musket volley would not stand a charge. If a line was being charged they would turn and run.

Also, a lot of the time when assaulting buildings etc. they would not be allowed to have loaded muskets and quite often had their flints taken out as firing during advance was found to be counter productive and assaulters should charge with bayonets.

Good stuff! hahaha

Hands up if you've ever gone into battle wearing orange slippers?

Yeah Mace, it's my favourite too, just ahead of Shogun.
As to bayonet charges, if I was a French soldier faced with a line of charging Scotsmen I'd leg it too. runningdog

Random trivia of the day: the bayonet was originally designed for hunters. When hunting animals such as the often violent wild boar, there is no time to reload if the first shot was not decisive; you often had to (and have to, today) defend yourself against the boar charging at you.

Naunton Beauchamp Worcestershi...
'Is that all you can send against me Wellersley? These skirted Amazons?' Bonaparte
'Cold steel! They don't like it up e'm! They do not like it!' Corporal Jones

Interesting snippet Peally. Didn't know that.
There are some boar spears in a local museum here used by Henry VIII that have a stop behind the blade as the boar will continue aggressively charging even though pierced through it's vitals.

The mental image of a fat arse Henry going boar hunting popcorn

Decided to start a new campaign as a free Scotland, it's a bit of a challenge when all you have are militia but the English have well trained regulars and plenty of arty...

Some naval action

Behemoth. It must have been terrifyingly awesome to witness a broadside from a ship of the line.

*Wilhelm scream*

Marines and sailors fighting

There goes the flagship

Spreading fire to my ships

Denmark - Portugal. Not sure how often these people found themselves at war in history but in this game at least they are at war.

What's over the hill?
