Hey All,

I decided to document my attempt at a fellow flight simmers low cost FSSB Mod.. WEll I ordered the parts a week ago and tonight I just soldered up the Force Sensors.. It was a little tricky and knowing what I know now I would have lengthened the wires on the 1 plug..

http://www.viperpits.org/smf/index.php?topic=7295.0

I had just replaced the Pots in my Cougar so I already had the Wires to plug into the Board in the Stick.. The one was shorter and was a little tricky soldering onto the sensors..

I think I managed to not destroy the sensors and when I get the rest of the parts I can finish this mod..

Here are some before pics of the sensors little blurry but Hey I am a Flight sim Junkie not a photographer LOL!!

WEll I currently undertook another mod. one that puts the stick at the correct 13degreee angle,,

This mod proved to be a bit more difficult.. I first used some Epoxy I had lying around which in the end failed.. I then tried to use a fiberglass repair kit I had from a previous project.. I know the resin in that stuff is tough as steel..

WEll I fiberglassed it up last night and waited until this afternoon to sand it down and file the center piece..

It took about 2 hours to and and form fit it back into the stick and I know have a 13Degree and gle on my Force sensing stick.. I know need to figure out an solution to simulate more lbs of force on the stick as now I use about a few pounds to get max g and In the real F16 I believe it is 15-19lbs..

here are some pics and the final result:

Well the 2nd attempt failed after a hard flight.. I rethought the process and followed the directions a bit more this time.. I scuffed up the bottom piece where the resin is too be bonded too and was a bit more liberal with the resin..

I think this will last a bit better as it is a bit beefier and since I scuffed up the surface I think it will hold better then before.. I need it too last just about 3 weeks as I got a new piece made of bronze on order take some time to get it fund wise..

Well here are some pics and hopefully it holds this time..

Caput Mundi (well, it used to ...
For 10 to 20 Euros you can get a hold of an electronic bathroom scale with 4 strain gauges, generally each capable of measuring weights in excess of 100kg with a resolution (allegedly) of a few grams. I think that these should work well for a force sensing stick, though it would probably be better to pass the signal through some sort of conditioning to make better use of the chosen force range.
