That thread is the best evidence I have seen that they have at least one adult on the staff over at PGI.
This should be the template for all their future communication with the community.
Yeah it is nice to see some sign of competency there! I keep waiting to see if management was going to step in and quash it...

The main improvement for me would be for immersion, it would give me the feel of being a an actual cockpit I can look around in, instead of a first person shooter view with a hud which it is now...
But do we even know if the rest of the cockpit is modeled. I mean how much work are we talking about here. Are they allowing 6 DOF. Can I lean forward and see my feet? My battle damage?
Hell its been months with only minor improvement to the UI which seems monumentally simpler than this.
From what I understand about TrackIR integration, if they already had a separate eyepoint camera and the cockpit modeled, then the integration with TrackIR is pretty simple and not much work.

Agreed, if they didn't already have those things then I think it will be a long while before they can accomplish it, just remember how much they bragged about "cockpit glass" as a major milestone but who knows maybe they modeled the whole cockpit at that time and not just the front glass.

I'm not going to complain about progress just because the game isn't where we'd like it to be. Every release like this is a step in the right direction. Don't beat the dog when it sits when you tell it to just because you'd rather it was doing backflips by now.
For the cockpit, the only thing to see would be the heatsinks and an ammo count that's often wrong on the screens. Unfortunately, in the Banshee the mini map obscures the heatsink screen. You can look down and see your legs, feet and pedals. Some mechs have more modeled behind you than others. I suspect they'll limit the turn around to what you can see in free look right now. You can zoom in around the cockpit, but I don't know if they'll tie that to TIR or not. Hope so, or at least when the screens are more useful I hope they do.
I had never tried the free look, but what you describe sounds excatly like the eyepoint camera that TrackIR would hook into pretty easily, even if it doesn't get 6DOF it would still be very useful for me to have that controlled by TrackIR.

For reference, here's what we've got now. Tie that (free look and zoom) to TIR and I'm fine with it. Sounds like all they need is a TIR toggle in the menu to assign it that same functionality and have TIR do their thing for a profile. Of course I'm not a programmer. LOL They also have to release the free look from the weapon orientation. You see it visibly on the Jager, but the guns still track to where you're looking. Or, give us this as a targeting alternative, like Brennus was going to experiment with.
Thanks for the video Raw, personally I think that would be a huge immersion improvement for me with TrackIR, although how much you want to bet some will call it cheating :P

At least they finished it, but if waiting for QA until the launch module is where they want it, it could still be a while. I need to get that clip for headphones so I don't have to wear the hat all the time.

You may want to look into that before spending your money on the TrackClip Pro. It is *very* flimsy and easy broken. There have been a lot of complaints about it.

+100
I am on my second one, and just like my first one, it broke at the joints and is being held together with duct tape...
Wish they would come up with a better design and construction for the TrackClip Pro, the current design and materials break easily.
