Just curious - what is everyone using for their NVidia control panel settings?

What anti-aliasing?
Aniso?
Texture filtering?
Triple buffering?

what I noticed, Anisotropic filtering 16x gives some boost, but not sure it even works. VSynch is off (triple buffering too of course), AA 4x. kind a "minimum" settings.

I'm still scratching my head on why no matter what I set my in-game resolution or .ini settings or NVidia settings - I seem to be stuck at about 30FPS regardless. Unless FRAPS is reporting that wrong? (What is the in-game FPS counter key if there is one?)

Here is a curious thing. If I set to full-screen mode in the EECH.ini file, I get a FPS of 29 no matter what I have the mfr (max frame rate) setting set at. BUT, if I select windowed mode, my FPS triples. (Was 28 - with windowed mode went to 90!)

Any idea what is going on there?

have no idea. I have the opposite - fullscreen gives 50% speedup for me. did you tried to reset nvidia settings for eech?

similar problem http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ub..._mo#Post3933378

Hmm.. Interesting. Maybe its a Windows 8 thing? I also get an instant CTD if I ALT-TAB out of EECH. If I'm running in a window, I'll also get a CTD if I let my mouse wander outside of the window - for example, if the mouse wanders too far down the screen and suddenly the tool bar becomes active EECH thinks I've tasked switched and CTDs. I've been reading that others (Col James I think) has been ALT-TABBING out without problem. So I'm wondering if that is related to my lower FPS in fullscreen mode too..

yes, it can be W8. unfortunately I'm not DX programmer (and not programmer at all) and can't see any chances that I'll fix it after testing with windows8 by myself. btw you can try to launch debug build in window mode, mouse locked into window for it and will not steal focus from the game. it's just for test of course.

Interesting - I too get the CTD if I Alt+Tab from EECH in fullscreen, yet thealx, James and others seem to avoid it. Maybe if we can all detail or system specs, settings and EECH.ini variables here, we could I common factors; or is that not really worth the effort?

It's definitely worth the effort if we can pin down what the differences are. Is it video cards? Drivers? Windows version? It's frustrating to be in a delicate windowed mode (that will crash if I wander out of the constraints) and see FPS of 200.. That's a tease! LOL

Right; gimme a bit to go harvesting. I suggest we need:

* Windows version
* CPU
* HD
* Graphics card
* Driver no. and release date
* Video settings (easily found with NVidia cards, not so sure about AMD/ATI)
* EECH.ini complete (or just graphics bits?)
* Compatibility settings you're running it in (if any)?

Any other suggestions 'n' such?

Just gave that a whirl. Indeed - it keeps the mouse in focus, so there is no crashing to desktop as the mouse wanders around, but if I ALT-TAB to another window I get an immediate CTD. And yes, in that debug/windowed mode the FPS is much, much better...

ok, so there is my plan:
1. lock mouse cursor for windowed mode
2. disable window borders
3. solve CTD problem (I have the same so there is a chance that I will find reason)

of course it's a bad way to increase performance - play in windowed mode, but looks like that's the only one that I can propose right now.

Funny thing.
In the Nvidia control thingy, I have everything off or "let application decide" (sorry, i use the german version, so I don't know, how it's named correctly in english...).
I have vsync on and play with a resolution of 1920x1200 at 60Hz.
If I set mfr in EECH.ini to any value higher or equal to 60, fraps shows 58-60fps for me.
If I turn vsync in Nvidia-control off, and let mfr at 90, 300 or whatever, fraps only shows 30 fps.

And there's no difference for me if windowed or fullscreen ingame. While being in the menus it looks slightly different though. Fullscreen 1920x1200 everything between 0 and 60, windowed it goes up to 4500 eek2 .

But I don't really care, as long as the sim runs smooth...

WinXP
P4 @2GHz Edit: 768MB RAM
GeForce 6200, driver version 163.75 (one of the last non-kitchen-sink versions)
Aniseed flittering 4x
Vsync Off
Triple buffering On (default)
Everything else is 'global' or 'default' or 'application controlled'
1280x720
Terrain detail medium
Object detail low
Cockpit detail high
No shadows

Seem to be getting 25-35 fps on average with mfr=72 but I need to try some other random numbers to see what they do.

Pentium 4 2.7 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, NVidia 7300 GeForce 512 MB video card.

These settings are default.

I don't know what to change or what they mean.

Everything else in the game is set on high and I play in 1280x1024.

I can play at my maximum resolution of 1680x1050 but it makes the map and menu of the game looks real small.

What's in the box? C'mon, what's in the boooox?

Ok so it's not NVidia but this seems like as good a place as any for graphics settings:

AMD 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, Win7-64
Radeon HD6450
Aniso 4x
Antialias 2x
Vsync off
Tribble buffering off
1280x800
Terrain detail medium
Object detail low
Cockpit detail high
No shadows

Frame rate 35-50 fps except when I'm in the middle of a lot of smoke when it can drop as low as 5!

But bearing in mind that there are particular limitations of the card/driver, e.g. in Elite Force (also DX7) I had to set simple objects (instead of floating rotating pickups) or the framerate dropped to about 10 (from 80-90) when there were a lot of these items in view.
