RC 14.4 driver trashed my system. Had to use a recovery disk and go to an earlier restore point. Was not a big problem. Only 15 minutes or so of work.
I had uninstalled drivers as directed. Crash happened during install of new driver.
Probably does not always do that or it would not be a Release Candidate.
A head's up. For what its worth.

A head's up. For what its worth. Black Screen lockup or did it wipe your SATA Drivers? 14.1, .2, and .3 all locked up on black screens, which required SEVERAL Reboots into safe mode to clean and fix. For 14.4, After it installed Displays in installed AHCI Serial ATA Controller (though driver date is 2006?) Installed some other things for AMD SATA and USB Filters... USB Devices all powered off, required reboot, rebooted, Windows re-installed all USB Devices, as well has Harddisk Volumes, required another reboot. Re-installing SATA Drivers on Controller with the Windows Partition is pretty risky, surprised it didnt have a fit when the volume was offline. Seems that my Marvel SATA3 Controller isnt listed not the ports on it..... yay.. thank you AMD. Shut Down for the Night, Come Home today, power up. No new Hardware Icon, but my Marvel SATA-III Controller shows up under Storage controllers and the ports are still MIA, along with the Drives. So Right now I'm redownloading the driver packages for my Mainboard. D3D9 is like 30-45% Faster though

I had no problems with 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3 -- except that Windows Media Center DRM sometimes acted up with my TV tuner. So, I had gone back to the 13.12 WHQL driver. As an aside, I now have Time Warner Cable internet (as of a few days ago), so the TV tuner is no longer needed. I can get TWC TV on ANY computer connected device in the house at no extra cost (the above tuner requires a cable-card rental). They have free apps for PC, smartphone, tablet, etc. We installed them all. Also, made our Plasma TV LAN connection practical -- get Amazon movies direct to HDTV (no computer needed) for example with no problem. I'm finally in the 21st Century My feeling is that it might be the mainboard drivers. The uninstall removed those too. However, the system did restart with no issues. While loading the new driver, probably during or just after Microsoft Visual C updating (based on when the failure occurred), the system rebooted. Hence forth, it rebooted, then when the first sign of Windows turned up, it rebooted. After a couple auto restarts and auto reboots, Windows recognized a problem had occurred and gave me a "fix it" screen. I had to put in a Windows 8.1 recovery disk (I had made previously) and my password. I got the usual menu of recovery options. In the end, what worked was to simply go back 3 days to a previous restore point. After restore, Windows started as before and all my programs, etc. worked. No data was lost -- that is, spreadsheets (for example) included things I had done during the last 3 days. Save games (from the last 3 days) on the C drive were still there.

I had no problems with 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3 -- except that Windows Media Center DRM sometimes acted up with my TV tuner. So, I had gone back to the 13.12 WHQL driver. So it wasnt just me, I Spent an entire week dealing with Windows DRM, I was unable to play any Xbox Music or Xbox Video on my system because it kept saying components were missing. I had to wipe and restore alot of music and media. I also think MS's DRM Servers were AWAL, because when I did get the errors to stop, it would say I didnt have usage rights, and it wouldnt re-download them, waited a few days and that stopped too. I'm finally in the 21st Century Cox has that here, I can use on Android, iDevice, whatever, I can't run the app on any of my Android Devices, BlueStacks or VM though, so I have to wait for compatibility on the App to expand. I dont use any iDevices. I have to check again, but I doubt they've updated the App yet. Regardless I have access to HBO Go, Max Go, Encore Play, Starz Play, Epix, etc etc, I think the only one Cox doesnt have internet access too is Showtime. The Content on the Websites by far exceeds the On Demand Content and their channel rotation. Netflix is about to be included in my DigitalTV Subscription and I should be getting a DVR Update to include an App for it on the DVR as well as access via my Cox Login on my PC... My feeling is that it might be the mainboard drivers.
Pretty much what I had, It installed some Standard SATA Controllers, which removed my Marvel Controller Drivers (which is the mainboard controller that controls SATA Ports 2-5 (0 and 1 being an AMD Controller). It kicked ALL of my Drives and Volumes offline (Including the Windows Active Partition), in past experience, this would normally cause severe issues with Windows. It kicked all of my USB Devices off, then asked to reboot, I had to press the Case Reset, as all the devices were still off or undetected due to USB Filter Drivers. Upon Reboot, new Hardware bubble came up, installed AHCI Serial ATA Controller Driver (Which Dated 2006), and Re-installed my Drives and Volumes for the Drives on the AMD SATA Controller Ports, but the Marvel Controller and Ports remained MIA. it then asked for a 2nd Reboot, at this point USB2.0 Devices were still MIA, but since USB 3 uses a Etron Controller, I was able to get a wireless mouse to work on that to have some control, rebooted, it then installed the AMD USB 2.0 Controller driver and one device after another. I believe it asked for another reboot after it installed the Driver for the UPS. The Funny part is I Unchecked USB Filter and other Mainboard Drivers because It said they were up to date. I dont use their Uninstaller Program because of that, it wipes my chipset drivers for USB, LAN, SATA etc. I just run the Cat Installer, Choose Uninstall, choose Display Drivers/CCC (Any anything related to the GFX Drivers if they are installed), Let it uninstall them, reboot, install the new ones. I'll give that to MS, System Restore has saved me a few times after bad driver installs. System Restore only restores System Files/Components to the previous state (ie Drivers, DLLs, Settings), it shouldnt touch anything else outside of the /Windows/ Folder and Configuration Files (boot ini etc). At this point my only issue is restoring the Marvel SATA 3 Controller Drivers. I Downloaded them from the Mainboard website, the Controller shows in Device Manager in a Separate section from the AMD Controller, which is weird as they used to be together along with the SATA Channels in Device Manager. Drive 0 and 1 and their volumes show up, as they are on the AMD SATA Controller AMD SATA Controller shows up, along with SATA Channels 0 and 1, Channels 2,3,4,5 are still MIA from Device manager. My BluRay/DVD Drive Still shows in My Computer, Device Manager, and Drive Management, and works even though it's connected to Channel 5. But Drives 2 and 3 and their partitions don't show up in Windows, They DO show up in POST, they Show Up in Ubuntu USB, they show Up in Windows 8 Enterprice USB Boot. So it's a Driver issue, i might have to uninstall and re-install them again, as I never got a "new hardware found" icon after re-installing them.

3 PC's in my house with 7900 GPUs and AMD Boards/Chips... 3 PCs that had to re-install SATA Drivers On.
Also Allen, Completely forgot, I have SEVERE Issues when Installing the drivers with Crossfire, I Disabled Cross Fire and Removed my 2nd GPU, allowing the drivers to load, reboot, shut down, put 2nd card back in, allow Windows to load the drivers for the 2nd GPU, Reboot, re-enable XFire.
if I Left XFire On and 2nd GPU Installed, it would hang at the black screen every time.
Not sure how easy that would be with water cooled systems that use custom loops, maybe you can simply shut down and remove the power cables from GPU 2, and disable it in the BIOS and then re-enable and re-plug power cables.

A couple days ago I downloaded the 14.4 WHQL. This time I used the uninstall in the normal install program. Still crashed on install, the first time. Then, after a simple restart, the drivers loaded. I've been using them since then. Still, something seemed not quite right as the after-install log was corrupted (a simple text file). I'll have to pay more attention next time, in case it is the CrossFire. However, until you mentioned it, I've never noticed CrossFire to be a problem when loading drivers. In general, I've had VERY FEW driver issues in the last 11 years of AMD GPU usage (AMD dramatically improved the drivers and development process in 2003 -- though some Nvidia fans still "hark back" to those olden days when complaining about AMD ). Nonetheless, I may have simply not noticed "issues" as my setup has always been very "vanilla" -- hopefully, so "standard" that they test for it and get drivers working for it.

It's been an issue with me for all 14.x drivers.. to the point where I took my 2nd GPU out, as I wasn't really using it as I wasn't gaming lately, but there's a lot of people complaining about it on pretty much every Overclocking/Hardware forum I frequent.

Interesting that folks have issues. Maybe its my "vanilla" approach or maybe I don't play the "troublesome" games.
I always have CrossFire "ON". But the drivers automatically turn it off for some things and I don't "override" their decision (an aspect of my Vanilla approach).
In summary of above, 14.1, 14.2, 14.3 worked for games. I thought they may have given some false positives with the Windows Media Center DRM (certain protected HDTV channels did not display and I was warned by Media Center that I did not have "authorization" -- which it does if it finds something non-standard about my system). But, as drivers, the Video and games were fine.
14.4RC did not work when I followed instructions and used their "drastic" driver removal tool (detailed above).
14.4 WHQL worked when I used the "normal" driver removal tool -- after one hiccup.
No problems since.
Just information.

I'm still fighting with my Zune DRM.
When I try to just chill and listen to tunes in the Zune Software, half the stuff gives me DRM Missing Components or DRM Authorization required, even though I'm signed in.
I can play Music on my ZuneHD Device, I can log into music.xbox.com and play it there, as well as on my xbox...
So... I think it's because I reset my DRM and some of the Music has changed formats. I had that issue a few years back when I built this system half the music I bought when running Zune on the old system was in WMA and then it was removed from marketplace and replaced with MP3 Versions, So when I tried to restore DRM License it would fail (because the item was no longer on marketplace) (personally I'd rather have WMA Lossless....).
But My DRM Issues started with 14.2 or 14.3, I dont remember, and the rest is just fall out from re-setting the system's DRM Component.
As for Ceton... I havent had problems with them outside of signal going out. But I didnt use WMC during my Struggle with Windows DRM / Zune, I reset my DRM before I had opened WMC again, so I dunno if that was a issue or not.
I wanna upgrade to a 6 Tuner ETV, but There's still issues with them.
A few others I know that use WMC and Zune (well now Xbox Music/Video) had DRM issues as well... Gamers Not so much, but HTPC/Multi-Mediaphiles, problems galore.

Funny, I reported it with 14.4 RC and it took them this long to confirm it?

I bypassed the issue on the last machine I updated by Running the AHCI SATA Driver installer from within the extracted AMD Folder first, rebooting, and then installing Cat 14.4 GPU Drivers, since the AHCI Driver was already installed it skipped it . Also finally got my other drives to show up on my main machine.

My problem with 14.4RC did seem like it could have been the AHCI driver (or something similar connected to some fundamental aspect of the motherboard interface). Really did not seem to have anything to do with the Graphics driver itself -- because that never loaded (crashed before that loaded).
Anyhow, as I reported, 14.4WHQL works for me. Probably because they eliminated the offending AHCI driver (though I don't know that for sure).
