They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam

My mistake, I know some Australian's, close friends, so I always think of them first, and I do know a New Zealander from this forum.
But yes, Australian and New Zealand.....ANZ...Army Corps.
Gallipoli 1915, a real tragedy.
Sorry about that.

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets where they lie side by side here in this country of ours You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."

Mustafa Kemal Atatrk

Wow ! That's a great memorial.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

A award winning documentary about the ANZACS in action, in Vietnam.
One of the best documentary's I have ever seen they use the actual radio traffic from a fire fight from hell.
It shows the bravery of the troops, and the utter madness of war.

There were others there...my people

http://lancashirelanding.weebly.com/lancashire-landing-1915.html

No disrespect to my adopted country, Australia, but plenty of my grandparents' neighbours and relatives were there too. In 1945 Winston Churchill was booed in Burnley, my home town, by people who had lost sons and husbands at Gallipoli, Churchill's brain child.

Please, no misinterpretation of my comments...Churchill was a great man, and by jesus, the Anzacs paid top dollar...but so did my people and they are little remembered by anyone.

6 VCs before breakfast.

Please forgive my annual post on this subject.

"Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"

MM ... Never disrespect nor misinterpretation could be taken ... IMO.

War is hell within itself, and leaves far greater pains as times pass.

To all those who gave everything of themselves for what they believed, or led to believe ... Not matter which side they were on ...

S!

However, excluding the War Mongers who created these situations .... They all deserve respect.
