Recently visited the RAF Museum at Hendon to try out my latest camera - Canon G1X. All photos are HDR conversions in Photomatix using three images taken at -2 ,0 and +2 EV, with some final tweeks in Lightroom.

HDR images are a bit like Marmite - people either love 'em or hate 'em!!

If there are some Marmite lovers on this forum let me know, and I'll post some more pictures ... biggrin

Cheers

I love Marmite yep

I also like your pics yep

I'm no picture connoisseur, but they look different enough to be interesting, almost like paintings,at least to me.

Not my taste I'm afraid, but each to their own.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

McGonigle, here's one of the Vulcan for you ... smile They've got it squeezed into the corner of the hangar, so it's quiet awkward to frame a picture of it. I've got some of the Vulcan at Duxford which I'll try to post for you later.

Cheers

I'm agnostic. (Not about Marmite, cannot stomach that stuff.) I want to say I don't care for it as it blurs some line I have drawn between life and art. The phantom and lightning(?) caught my eye however so I can't claim a complete lack of appeal. Just like Marmite, maybe love comes with repeat experiences.

Looks like a fantastic museum. The composition of the photos is great. You framed the photos very well.

Not that you are asking for advice, but when I learned HDR many of my photos looked like these. Remember that HDR is about range, no dark areas and no blow-outs in the whites, in the end it's what the human eye sees. These seemed to be a bit heavy on the tone mapping. The main complaint with tone mapping is that the photos can look 'overcooked'.

Advice? Overlay the tone mapped image with the normal photo layers and blend it in using layer unmask. It'll give you full control over your final product.

Overall though your photos are good. HDR museum shots are beautiful, especially when you don't have people walking into your frame.

Counterman, many thanks for your comments and feedback - constructive criticism always very gratefully received smile I was deliberately going for a surreal, 'over-cooked' look this time, just for something a bit different. However, I'll definitely have a go at the blending technique you suggest to obtain a more 'realistic' effect.

McGonigle - as promised, here are some more Vulcan shots, this time from Duxford. The Vulcan and the Lightning are my two favourite 'cold war' jets. Unfortunately it was busier than Hendon and so there is a lot more 'ghosting' in the shots.

Cheers

Fabulous Eric! Many many thanks.

During my national service in the RDAF I saw the Vulcan on a visit to Karaup. Loud and like a giant prehistoric animal that lived in the skies.

Nine lives - I visited Cosford about 8 or 9 years ago, before it's face lift, and even then I found it a fascinating place - must make the time to go back there sometime.

McGonigle - as a boy I was lucky enough to go to airshows at RAF Finningley and witness a Vulcan scramble - three Vulcan's being scrambled in quick succession. The noise was awesome - still brings me out in goose bumps just thinking about it.

Trindade - glad you like them. Here's a final few - enjoy smile

Cheers

Hate Marmite but love these! Brings the plane to life (compared to the rather dull shots one usually sees in these confined halls) and enhances the detail of construction on the stripped fuselages.
