I have CMANO en route, haven't received it yet, and am wondering if there are any training scenarios included or available for download that will help get me up to speed quickly?

I am interested in this as well. I have been debating back and forth whether to buy this or not since release.

Hello, and welcome!

Command comes with three tutorial scens out of the box, one each for submarine, surface and air ops. The submarine and surface ops tutorials are very simple and straightforward, while the air ops scen can sometimes be a bit challenging for new players (you are essentially handling an entire early '80s carrier air wing).

Some of the included scenarios are also great choices to get started, thanks to their simplicity:
* Stand Up
* Brother against Brother
* Choking Halifax
* Raid on Kismayo
* Maria & Victoria
* Battle of Latakia

Some of the community scenarios are also great for starting simply & easy:
* ASW EX-1971
* Small random convoy transit
* Annaba Constant
* ASW Ecercise 2006
* Kiwi Strike
* Gulf of Tonkin incident
* Podengo Monday
* Battle of Strait of Tiran

Also feel free to ask on the Matrix "War Room" forum for tips & tactics for getting started by veteran players. You'll find plenty of knowledgeable guys willing to help. We've all started from scratch.

Thanks!

Okay I am having a really frustrating issue:

I click F2 and set speed for my vessel, then F3 and click a point on the map to create a waypoint. Now when I try to click on a helo I have launched all that happens is that I create another waypoint.

I cannot get the mouse pointer out of "set waypoint" mode so I can click on another unit!!??

Another issue, I cannot count how many times I've clicked "delete" to delete a waypoint and instead all the waypoints AND THE UNIT ITSELF are deleted!!

To exit course-plotting mode you can press F3 again.

Deleting a selecting unit is only possible in ScenEdit mode so I am assuming you are running the scenario in this mode.

To delete a waypoint of a plotted course you must first select it. Click on the point and it should turn to yellow, this indicates that it is the selected point. (You will also notice that the hitherto selected unit is de-selected). Now press Delete and the waypoint should disappear.

Also please make sure that you are running the most up-to-date public release (currently this is Build 507, available here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3583708)

Thanks.

Thanks, I finally figured out the F3 issue. Kinda clunky the way that works, IMO.

Now I am running the "South China Sea Clash" scenario, the US units mostly ignore my waypoint commands for some reason. I am trying to get USS Freedom and USS Forth Worth to move closer together for mutual support, ordered Freedom to head west toward Fort Worth and ordered Fort Worth east toward Freedom but both insist on just going north toward the Chinese forces ignoring my orders.

What's up with that?

If your units have been assigned to a mission and have the 'Ignore Plotted Course When Attacking' flag set, they will move to intercept hostile contacts no matter what the plotted course is. Once the threat has been cleared, they will return to their plotted course.

If you do not want your platforms moving to intercept, right-click the unit or group and then go to the 'Attack' section and uncheck the Ignore Plotted Course setting.

Thanks!!

Now maybe I can win the Battle of the South China Sea! (came close, but lost Forth Worth to Chinese antiship missiles)

IIRC this is one of the toughest included scenarios. You may want to try out something a bit easier first.

I like a challenge wink

The last time I ran it I couldn't make Forth Worth / Freedom obey my plot commands but I could control their speed, so I just slowed them down and set Halsey at flank so she could catch up with them. The LCS were then relatively safe under Halseys anti-aircraft umbrella. Forth Worth was on the western edge of that umbrella and Halsey attempted to intercept the missiles that sank her but she was mere seconds from being successful, her standard missiles were less than a mile from intercept when Forth Worth was hit 4 times in rapid succession and she simply disappeared.

Forth Worth was the only US loss, and I sunk all the Chinese vessels plus hammered the Chinese shore installations with Tomahawks fired from USS Hawaii as well as Halsey.

So Dogsbd in your noob opinion how is the game in general? 80 bones is a lot to drop on something I'm not particularly familiar with, but if it's good enough to warrant the price I'm game.

You've got to be a fan of the genre. I've only scratched the surface but it appears to be very detailed, which could be frustrating if you're not really into naval combat. And don't expect flashy graphics, you don't even get to see your enemies ships explode, roll over and go down. There's just a text message that says the unit is sinking.

It took me weeks to finally buy this sim and I'm glad I did but I was a bit lucky in that I was able to pick up the boxed version for $65 from Wedge here on SimHQ.

You might consider buying the boxed version yourself then if it's not your thing you should be able to sell it easily for 50-75% of what you have in it.

I've been looking at developer gameplay videos. It looks like something I could get behind (even though I know jack all about naval warfare); it seems like a good slow rainy day type sim, kinda like DCS combined arms from map view times a thousands.

It just needs some music in the background to keep me going (I understand this was recently added) smile

Oh and multiplayer behindcouch
