phase two of my project is to implement bass shakers.
i just bought 2 8" rockford fosgate punch subwoofers.
amplifier is incoming.

i sort of have an idea of what do, but it is not set in stone.
i appreciate any links or ideas to making a reliable bass shaker...

thank you.

You will want to make sure the things are as tight as possible to the frame, otherwise you get rattling sounds.

From your computer you are best off using the subwoofer channel to power the amp, otherwise voices and other higher pitched sounds will vibrate your bum.

If you're using FSX/P3D or X-Plane, you can build a great vibration feedback system.
Here's video of the one I finished last week:

What do you want is the question: if you want to ear the bass frequency you need a subwoofer speaker...if you want to feel the bass you need a bass shaker...I have both in my flight sim and I really enjoy that effects...good lock !

that is the route i am going.
hello mister aircraft, i have one question.. or actually, a few..
what size speaker and what is the handling power (rms) of the speaker that you are using?
and how did you determine how many washers you placed on to the shaker?
resources i read have instructed DIY'ers to incorporate a weight on to the shaker, for tuning purposes, but how do you know when the DIY shaker is 'tuned"?

Hello hannibal...my subwoffer converted to a shaker is an Audiobahn AW1051T/300W/dual 2 " voice coil/...The driver amplifier is an old Sansui/150W per channel...you can use a piece of metal or washers to have a weight enough to produce shaking effect...how to tune ?...Easy jeje...when your body shake ! More questions ?...You're welcome !

Really I do not know the approximate weight of my metal...I used a cover of an old car amplifier and it was enough in my case to produce a lot of vibration ... I think you need to test because shakers make no sound...they just shake !

can i ask, how long has your creation been working? i worry to build something only to last for 6 months to a year...
also, did you also use epoxy to attach the bolt to the speaker cone? what kind of epoxy did you use?

thankssssssss!

hey aircraft. crazy setup you got there.
i like to ask, do you have a low pass filter hooked up?
someone else who also has a DIY shaker says he can here voices anything above 100Hz.
some times even at 100Hz, he says on his set up.

i bought a 150hz filter, im worried i have to return it.

if you do have a low pass filter, what frequency do you cut out?

i see that you have a crossover box.. what is the setting on your switch?

You need to use a LPF ...actually I'm using a Coustic XM-1e Car Crossover to feed my Shaker and my settings are : Low pass frequency : 50Hz at 70% level aprox and this is enough for me . Anything above 100 Hz and you will hear voices ! Subwoofers and Shakers need a LPF for to work fine !

Why not upload some images of your crossover boxes , amplifier and speakers that you will convert to shakes ? Sometimes a photo is much better than a hundred of words...

so my amp came in, felt under powered, decided to return it.
it was a technical pro AX5000. my sony bookshelf system drove the sub better than the power amplifier.

what amp are you using, the spec?
what am i doing wrong? :/

Ok...but wait ! Did you make the conversion of the Sub to Shaker ??? If so...upload a photo of your set up and where do you installed it ?... Mine is an old Sansui power amp/ 150W per channel /8Ohm output and it works fine...and is driven by a LPF Crossover like the one in the photos

my speakers are fosgate punch 8" DVC with 2 ohms on each coil (i wired the DVC in series to achieve 4 ohms)

I did not make the conversion yet, so far i am just testing the amps, im also waiting for the epoxy to come (ebay loctite hysol)
my crossovers just came in today, i have to find PC power supplies.
so basically i have two subwoofers, each wired to 4 ohms each, they handle 250watts each. what ampliifer should i get?
im thinkin about the pyle 5000watt or the bergeringr 5000 watt. or maybe the crown 1500 watt...
what do you think?

crown XLS 1500 is worth the money.
unfortunately the DIY shaker did not meet my expectations.
after putting 95% power to the two DIY shakers using a 50Hz test tone, i started to smell plastic burning.
i shut the amp off, and saved the DIY shakers.
DIY shakers still intact.

I decided at that point, NO DIY shaker in my custom wood chair because:
a) i dont want to build something that might get burnt out.
b) DIY shakers required extensive modification to my chair in order to make a solid mount between the chair frame and DIY shakers. (didnt want to have 16 bolts to fasten the two shakers)

ultimately i choose Buttkicker LFE and Crown XLS 1500. they both have thermal protection and good quality. and the butt kicker mounted to my chair with some effort..

DIY Shaker WIP

My sim chair with buttkicker and amp.

at moment, i am waiting for a DAC (digital-to-analog converter) to come in (ordered behringer UCA202) because the amp requires a RCA line-level input. i hope to test on wed, with Euro Truck Simulator!
