FSX Mission editor is pretty good. I use it too, but you still have to know how to use the OPT.
Here's the material I was talking about yesterday:
Installation instructions:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_%28FSX%29 Take a look at the series of video's from this guy (he will show you how to test for a good installation):
http://www.simpilotnet.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=193&Itemid=32There are more videos (from this series -- and others) on youtube.
It's o.k. to install on your current machine, just not ideal.
Consider developing on a different computer. This helps if your doing multiplayer mission development.
Thow shalt create a bookmark for the mission creation kit documentation:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527028.aspxHere you will find documentation for mission creation and for flight files.
There are five parts to the mission creation tutorials on microsoft's site, starting here:
http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/missions/Pages/MissionBuildinginFSX.aspxFinally, here are a few tips:
After you've gone through making a mission above and you're ready to start with a Multiplayer mission, start with one the fsx included missions. Just copy that to a new directory, assign a new GUID to that mission, change the name and start editing!
When you actually place objects, go into the outside->top down view mode -- otherwise you will have imprecise object placement. I learned this through trial and error.
Set your water detail to low while using the OPT -- this is also know to create object placement error. Error, in these two circumstances means unwanted offset -- you will not see an error window.
