Just got home from taking my wife to see them at the Fox Theater in Oakland, Ca. What an awesome show, so smooth, so much talent and a great surprise date night with the wife! For those that don't know they're basically James Mercer of The Shins and Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse who is the other half of Gnarls Barkley. Both guys are extremely talented and the latter is a world class producer as well. I highly recommend checking them out if they're playing nearby. And man the Fox Theater is a hell of a venue, apparently it had been closed for about 40yrs until a few years ago and apart from it having great acoustics its also a beautifully ornate place that just oozes craftsmanship from a bygone era albeit expertly restored.
First concert of the year for me but I'm still a little bummed that I couldn't make the Motorhead show last week, Lemmy is getting older and his health is starting to decline.

Saw their set at Coachella this past weekend- great show they put on, and a lot more energy than some of the other, more hyped bands. Glad you guys enjoyed it, and I've heard great things about Fox Theater.

The Fox Theater is definitely a grand place. I asked my Grandpa of 87yrs about it the other day since hes from that area and he remembers going to movies and shows there when he was a kid. They just don't make theaters like they used to!
Nothing wrong with that, I can't connect with most new music these days myself and I'm in my 30s. But these guys compared to most new acts these days, at least they use instruments to record music. For the two main guys in this band this is just a collaborative effort, Jame's Mercer and his band The Shins have been around for about 15 years. Brian Burton actually started off as a hip hop DJ but now mostly produces for big acts like Norah Jones and U2. And Brian Burton's other collaborative act Gnarls Barkley is a great twist merging new/old soul with Ceelo Green singing.
