attack those lavochkin fighters sure are nasty.

The setup, I'm flying fighter bomber fw190a8, after having struck targets with bombs. So, I have the bomb-rack making some drag.

La7 (it's a 1944-45 Russian fighter) is a monster in IL-2 sturmovik basically. Huge speed, excellent turning and rolling ability, adequate firepower to destroy anything, but it might have less ammo (not sure)

La5FN model is sort of the same deal except that its characteristics are somewhat worse than the later La7 model.

Is there anything to be done really, against La5fn and La7?

It feels like flying a wildcat against zeroes, or somewhat similar. Those Russian fighter sure are dangerous and it seems that any mistake will be easily capitalized by them. (because they have such good engine performance, they are like "semi-bnz" aircraft)

If it's one on one, try forcing the La into a head on pass; the FW probably has more armor & more firepower.

If flying the Fw-190A8 vs the Lavochkin La-7, you do not have many options. You cannot out run it, out turn it or out climb it. You can out dive it and you have much more firepower than the La-7. Like nick said, the head on pass and dive away to gain speed and turn for one more pass. You cannot do this more than once or twice and you need to be high so you can take advantage of your superior diving.
In IL2-1946 the La7 can overheat quickly and has a weak tail. Just put some rounds into it and the elevator or rudder will fail. So if you see a La7 dive away and not smoking , chances are you damaged a critical part of his flight controls.
In multiplayer, teamwork is critical to success against the La7. In any Luftwaffe fighter, unless you are a very skilled pilot and confident in your ability to manouever, a chance encounter below say 2000 meters will usually not end up well for the German player.

The Dora 9 is faster than the La-7 only between 3200-4500 meters with boost on. Otherwise its the same story.
The Dora 9 Late is faster from 2500m up with boost on and has a secondary boost system to be only engaged about something like 5000m (i forget)

Now that I think of it, dont engage a Lavochkin below 2000m. It can eat your lunch.

Most late war Me-109s from the G6-AS on can out run the Lavochkin from about 2000m up.

The G6-AS had a high performance engine. Do not engage boost while you are at full throttle.
The K4 was the next step up from the standard G-6 with a more powerful engine standard.
The K4 C3 was a K4 but using high octane fuel. (high octane fuel was very rare in Germany)
The Z was nothing more than a pairing of Bf-109f with virtually no ammo for some reason. Purely experimental.

The Ta-152s were meant for high altitude interception only. It was hoped that it could cope with the P-51s and intercept the high flying B-29s that the Germans knew would replace the aging B-17s and B-24s. But the war never got that far.

Where the ocean meets the sky
I wonder how german pilots downed any russian fighters, if the latter were that good ?
Wasn't the FW 190 considered to be a better plane, than the Me 109.

FW was considered overall better than 109 because it was easier to fly and land, and had better armament. Majority of highest scoring aces got their kills mostly on 109s, 109s generally performed better than 190s when pushed to the limits. On the western front, 109s went after escort fighters and 190s went after bombers, when it was possible.
