The insignia of the Prince of Wales is three Ostrich Feather, they came from the battle of Cressy,
Blind King John of Bohemia brought his men to fight on the French side, when he heard the battle was not going well for them
so he ordered his followers to lead him forward into the fight where of course he was slain.
Later Edward the Black Prince as he walked among the French dead happened upon the body of Blind King John acknowledged him as a brave knight and plucked the three ostrich feathers from the kings helmet, these he presented to his father Edward III,who handed them back and ordered them to be his symbol from hence forth.
Or so the story goes, however to this day,the three feathers are still the symbol of the Heir to the throne of England,The Prince of Wales.
So now you know, and if some time in the future someone points at those feathers and expresses puzzlement, you shall be able to hold forth and impress everyone with your erudition
