Hi Guys,

I have successfully installed LB2 with latest nglide (1.02) on my current system (xp sp3).
Thanks to Agathosdaimon and Flyboy who inspire me to do so.
The game runs quite all right, however there are some strange annoying problems:

1. when flying manually, the helicopter always in rocking motion from left to right to left to right continuosly.
why is that?
I do not have this, when using autopilot on in hover mode.
And I have calibrated my joystick before I run the game.

2. the gun trigger (joystick button no.1) is jammed?
when I push it, sometimes it fires, but most of times it won't.

3. the joystick hat switches: "up", "down", "right" do not work, only "left" works.

Anybody know how to fix these kind of problems?

Hi tirta,

You're lucky you caught me here, I don't often visit the forums nowadays. Let's see about your issues...

1. It sounds like it's windy out there. The helicopter rocks from side-to-side when there is quite strong wind in a mission, this is how the developer's visually displayed turbulence. Try turning turbulence off in the options menu and see if that helps.

2. This is a common side-effect of running the game on modern computers. It has been put down to a CPU speed issue, strangely enough. It is also to do with the fact that you're probably using a USB joystick. There isn't really a cure for it, other than use the keyboard 'fire' button which still works first-time or use an old-school Gameport joystick if your PC has one.

3. I never had a joystick with a working hatswitch, and LB2 can be a bit temperamental when it comes to configuring controllers. I think there is some mapping software out there that allows you to program buttons on a joystick outside the game. Can't quite remember the details on that.

Apologies for me not being as helpful as I might once have been, much of this stuff now passes me by. Perhaps someone else will chip-in and fill-in the gaps that I have drawn.

This is not just a small gap you left here, its a huge black hole, not something which can be easily filled in by anyone.
Its no joke and no exaggeration.

Thanks for the reply, Flyboy. thumbsup

You are correct about the turbulance option.
Turning this off get rid of the rocking motion.

I have done some tinkering with svmapper,
programming the joystick button no.1 with "enter" and set it as "continuous" do the trick,
now it is fixed.

However, programming other buttons seem a bit tricky, for some unknown reason, LB2 interprets some of the buttons rather differently than as intended. I have to do some more experiments about these.

I have found another bug with the rockets.
Every time I shoot, the rockets always fall short and never hit the target,
how do you fix this? duh

Can't fix the rockets - known issue due to rocket trajectory being calculated on the CPU, and CPUs run too fast these days to make the right calculations. Only MPSM rockets kinda work.

Like Franze said, the rockets problem is said to be a CPU speed issue. Most old-skool attempts to throttle the CPU speed with CPU limiter software is pointless now as processors today are so fast and with multiple cores.

Using MPSM rockets is really the only option, and then you really need to fire them from a hover and only out to about 3km at stationary targets!

P.S. Staniol - You're too kind. Franze - It's good to see an old name pop-up in here!

I check in on occasion, pretty clear things in the LB2 scene have slowed down compared to 2006-2007 timeframe. Apache sims these days aren't exactly saturating the market and LB2 really doesn't like Win7 and greater. Life continues all the same. smile

Hi Franze:

Like the Beatles song, "With a little help form my friends" (specially Flyboy) my LB2 likes Win7...Still play it every weekend religiously.

A good program to slow the CPU clock down is DOSBox. You can configure it to slow just about anything down. biggrin

Turning on NVidia 3D also seemed to help, whether it works or not to produce actual stereoscopic. I got one glider renderer to work in stereoscopic 3D, but it produced no 2D panel and was in a small resolution. Both cases slowed it, though, to a more playable speed.

Funny, I've been playing LB2 for years with barely any issues (maybe a CTD once in a blue moon). Recently it started crashing at the end of a mission. Sometimes in the middle of the mission. Art first I thought there was something with a new campaign I recently started so I started a new one and it worked fine for a few missions. When I thought that was it, it started crashing again.

I then remembered a problem with another game where the voices (music and effects were OK, just the voices had problems) sounded like I had "double audio".

After checking Device manager, I noticed some nvidia audio drivers that were probably installed after a recent driver update. I disabled the nvidia "audio devices" and "the other game" worked fine so I went back to LB. It worked fine again for a couple of missions, then started crashing again.

I did a lot of troubleshooting always with the same results. Just when I thought I got it, it started crashing again. I even restored a backup I made when I first got it running without any luck...Until I realized, the MS Compatibility Toolkit was no longer installed on my computer.

I started looking at my old CDs until I found it, installed it with PositiveG's DB and finally fixed it!!! I then again tried other DBs I had on disks but it still crashed so I went back to PosiviteG and it hasn't crashed in the last 2 weeks.
biggrin

Edit: The only problem I have now is the radar not updating air targets (enemy chopper or aircraft) returns. Sometimes it keeps the pointing at a place where the air target is no longer there. Sometimes I go chasing a ghost (the chopper has been destroyed), sometimes I think I am chasing an enemy chopper but it is really behind me.

Thanks for your input, The Punisher.

You know that all those files are still available at my website... so you don't have to trawl through your CDs to find them!

Yes the web address is still the same. Unfortunately, for some reason, some people have trouble getting on to my websites. They work for me. I don't know what to suggest.

I've never been able to access the site and I have never figured out why.

I had some time to kill and tried to find out why I cannot access http://digitality.comyr. I spend over an hour and nothing worked. Cleared my temp files, reset modem and router, changed DNS to an open DNS, flushed DNS, disabled firewall, ran virus scanning, checked router settings, attempted using Chrome and IE8....nadda, nothing worked. Still cannot access the site. I'm thinking his ISP is blocking us. I'm not sure why but I can nearly guarantee its not on my end.

For the record, I am searching into the problem again. For those who cannot access the site, I was able to access it using a proxy site. Try kproxy.com. Still searching into why the proxy site is able to access it and I cannot.
