I was looking at the campaigndata folder and noticed that there are files which contain town coordinates that are in the game. It might even be possible to add towns since I assume the game gets its terrain data from dds files.

I can't find a way to read the game map coordinates, but if someone already knows how to do it, then maybe some of the towns can be "relocated" to better match the road network.

There might even be a possibility of inserting new small villages or towns by adding the name and inserting new coordinates into that file.

That would be wonderful yaan98 but I fear it is not so simple. This subject has been discussed in years past as it concerned OFF and given the devs penchant for accuracy if moving and adding towns were a simple affair I've a hunch they would have done it by now. I've just completed the photo recce of the entire Flanders sector and was wishing the very same thing as so many of the cities are out of place. Who knows though, someone may jump in and sort this out.

Moving towns would require an intimate knowledge of the CSF3 terrain files. You can still find the Terrain SDK (software developers kit) online and download it, but it is rather hard to decipher. I think you'd have to move both the city tiles (which paint the streets etc on the ground) as well as the buildings. I suspect the files you see in the campaign folder give the coordinates for placing all the building models, but that is a total guess.

What I don't understand is that the towns' locations did match up so well with reality in OFF. I used to fly with paper maps and was surprised to find even some small villages where they belonged. Now I'm back to using the waypoint indicator on the TAC.

*sigh*

SALUTE TO ALL!

So, it was already discussed in OFF's time.... I'm 13 years too late for the party, I guess.

I'm slowly realizing that some things in this game can't be changed without developer tools. Looks like that only superficial changes like some textures (dds files) can be done. Oh, and some tweaking of the xmls are also there.... mycomputer
