This seems to happen periodically. Sometimes our flight will go above the escorted craft and will be fine. Other times we will go below or nearly at the same level and will start zigzagging as we try to not overshoot the recon, but also not try to collide with them. There have also been some missions where we get out in front of the recon and will do a massive chinese firedrill in the sky to try to all come back around and get in position again. I suspect it is a pathing bug when you get too many aircraft of different speed all trying to go through the same waypoint area in the sky and tha ai can't resolve it. It is fairly rare and I can't seem to spot any commonalities as to what triggers it, so I usually ignore it, but yeah, I have had a pilot killed by it when on autopilot. That's why it's good to use Robert Wiggin's backup utility or fly on "Pilot Always Lives", to avoid unusual situations like that...

When flying escort missions with RNAS 1 in March 1917, after we meet up with the recon flight that we are to escort, the planes in my flight start zig zagging all over the place. It is freighting, worse than combat with the Huns! I try to stay out of their way but was actuall hit by another member of my flight. I have not seen this with other aircraft types? Is this the way it is supposed to be? I now just break formation an fly about 150 feet above the rest to stay out of their way. Hi there Next time you see one of these problems please collect up the log files and send them to support. The procedure for doing this is described in the FAQ under "Contacting Support". thanks in advance .. rex

I experienced a variation on this last night. In my first flight with RNAS 1 in early Jan. 1917, we were on an escort mission.
The flight consisted of 5 Tripes, I was leading. Two Tripes - My wingman being one of them - Stuck to me like glue in the correct formation. The two others were swerving all over, sometimes going in front of me, then coming back and pulling right up to my tail. But there were no collisions.
It almost seemed that the two swervers had no throttle control and were on 100% throttle the entire time.

There is an issue with the tripe and formation flying. Even while using the auto pilot? If so, that really sucks.
