I just picked up B-17 II from the bargain bin and have been fiddling around with it. This might sound silly, but I can't get past the first tutorial about taxiing on the runway. The plane only starts to turn at substantial speed, but by the time I reach that speed I'm already off the runway (and failed the mission).

Is this a matter of wrong technique, or is it some technical issue (like maybe Windows XP + USB joystick = bad combination for a Win 98 game?) I ask this because I also noticed that controls are *really* sluggish in B-17 II's fighters.

Did you release the parking brake before you tried to taxi?

The tailwheel is locked. Steering is much easier when you unlock it (can't remember the key). I had exactly the same problem.

cheers, Steve

You're right, it was the parking brake causing the problem. The taking-off tutorial omits the step. -_-

Thanks for your help, it's good to know there's still people playing the game.

I always had trouble with the engines smoking once I took off. Obviously I'd overtaxed them somehow, but have never been able to work out why. \:\(

You need to play with the intercoolers to stop the engines from smoking.

4 levers on the co-pilots side console, left click and drag them. Once you are at altitude, right click them to return them to computer control.
