On 09MAR14 Combat Team Bravo (CTB) conducted a clearance of the Selakano Peninsula which was occupied by a Company (-) of mechanised CSAT forces. CTB deployed as a Tank Platoon (Kuma) with Arty and logistic support. CTB was tasked to clear Objectives STONE and WOOD of CSAT forces.
Left to right: 1-3, 1-1, 1-2 and Scorcher to the rear.
After a bit of practice shooting up defenceless vehicles at the main airfield and some slick, vehicle immobilising, driving from Sde, Hangfire put together a cunning plan and we set off South with the sun lowering to the West. CTB would clear enemy security positions as it advanced towards the airstrip at the bottom of the peninsula.
Hangfire's plan was to advance South over Phase Line DOGE towards a known enemy forward patrol, destroy it and then bypass the complex of hills North of OBJ WOOD in order to approach the objective from the Eastern flank. This allowed our tanks to outrange any infantry that may have been waiting to ambush us in the hills around the objective. Once OBJ WOOD was cleared, CTB would move south abreast of one of the main roads and then approach OBJ STONE from the North East. Movement by bounds was stressed and Artillery was used on dug in infantry positions as we didn't have dismounted infantry to assist in the clearance of the objectives.
1-2 waiting to step off.
The destruction of the enemies Northern-most patrol was accomplished with combined artillery and MBT fires. The Kuma's armour proved its worth as 1-1 was struck by a BMP's missile which blew off a track and required BOBCAT to recover. The BMP was consumed in a large fireball almost immediately as Evilrooter put a SABOT round through it in reply to the missile.
On approaching OBJ WOOD, CTB elements identified infantry and wheeled APCs and a distant pair of T-100 MBTs which required some not insignificant shooting to bring down. One of the T100's got within 800m of the Troop before it was wrecked by repeated 120mm strikes. CTB advanced and destroyed infantry as they went. As 1-1 and 1-2 were proceeding to conduct a clearance of OBJ WOOD while 1-3 held a position covering South, a mixed group of BMPs and 2-3 T-100s was spotted advancing from the South. 1-2 and 1-3 fought an area defence and destroyed the incoming armour at the cost of 1-3's track. Unfortunately, 1-1 was struck either by one of the enemy AFVs or a missile team hiding in OBJ WOOD and was completely destroyed.
Osias looks over at 1-3 and Carter, its commander, while waiting for 1-1 to rejoin the fight.
Once OBJ WOOD was cleared and 1-1 had rejoined the Troop, all CTB callsigns pushed south for a 'boss battle' at the airfield. Cluster munitions and liberal 155mm HE destroyed most of the infantry hiding in the woods around the airfield and the trucks, AAA and BMPs were destroyed by further 120mm shots. The Troop pushed towards the airfield slowly, engaging infantry as it went, only stopping to destroy straggler BMPs and APCs. On reaching the airfield, CTB wrecked several parked helicopters and 'made sure' on a couple of AAA guns no-one could remember shooting earlier.
Osias doing what he does best with the Coax from 1-2 as the Troop pushes South to OBJ STONE. A knocked out BMP sits to the right after an earlier engagement. Why my head is out of the turret, I'll never know.
Destroyed CSAT Helos litter the airstrip as 1-2 engages infantry (again) while passing a destroyed AAA vehicle.
With the Airfield secured, everyone posed for a group photo and the night was over.
It was a small game but a good one with good tactics and shots by all involved. the "How's my driving' award goes to Sde for his Mora drifting antics.
"Yeah you can take my order. I'll have three quarter pounder meals and a litre of Cola."
"It takes forever +/- 2 weeks for the A-10 to get anywhere significant..." Ice
"Ha! If it gets him on the deck its a start!" MigBuster
"What people like and what critics praise are rarely the same thing. 'Critic' is just another one of those unnecessary, overpaid, parasitic jobs that the human race has churned out so that clever slackers won't have to actually get a real job and possibly soil their hands." Sauron

Its a mixed bag regarding mil backgrounds. ARMA is a good Armour game, but SB is a better Sim.
I still like how I can get out of my tank and check over rises before moving past them.
Both certainly have their strengths and weaknesses. I've always considered ARMA to be the ultimate infantry simulator. Don't care too much myself for the way they simulate armor in it, always go to SBPE for my armor needs. Great vid by the way.

Unfortunately, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Just the way life works Also, it's truly a pity that BI went with the fictional vehicles in Arma3.
Is armor modeled significantly better in the ACE mod (or some other mod)?
I've been holding off on purchasing Arma3 because, well... mainly because I'm in "armored warfare" mode right now, but also a little bit because I'm worried I will get spoiled by Arma3's graphics and it will become increasingly painful to look at the SB graphics engine. Admittedly, eSims has made some improvements in that regard (vehicle shading and smoke effects look very good). But the rest of the graphics engine is still "meh." Fortunately, they get so many other things right.
