Anyone use the Black widow flightstick and if so would you recommend..ive got a Logitech Extreme 3d pro at the minute and ive had it a few years ,its been a great stick but my button 7 and 12 have stopped working,I know it has rudder control behind the throttle? how does that work,im used to using the twist on my stick as my rudder...Many thanks in advance for any replies. Best Regards: Adger

Adger, I have one and recommend it highly. It offers a lot for the money. The seperate throttle is reminiscent of much more expensive HOTAS joysticks and the rocker switch upon it is an appropriate device for your rudder, even though one may have to alter the sensitivity to your own preference within WOFF. This rudder takes the form of a rocker-switch, which I find more realistic than a twist-neither does it interfere with stick movement, being entirely separate. There are not as many buttons as in some rivals, but enough for a WWI sim, and a good, sturdy hat-switch. The only variable with the Black Widow is the vibration. There are several drivers (Windows drivers will run it fine, but without vibration) available for the joystick, but I find only the SL-6640 ones work in WOFF. Even with these I was originally getting terrible stuttering with them which rendered the game unplayable, necessitating disabling of FF within the Workshop. However, I recently transferred WOFF from my HDD drive to my SSD, which exactly corresponded with my installing the latest patch and the feedback works perfectly (firing guns with reasonable early stall warning), with no stuttering but I don't know which factor of the two (perhaps both?) is causative. Overall, the joystick is solid and well-built, and has a nice 'feel' about it (I do emphasise that is quite subjective) and if you get the vibration working, it's excellent for WOFF-the MG vibration seems to perfectly match the sounds. Hope this is of some help.

You're quite welcome. As regards various titles, I find the SL-6640 drivers (available in Speedlink archives at: http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=313&pid=1533&) work excellently for me in FE2 (and all the other TK titles), IL-2, WOFF (eventually) and reasonably well in BoBII (guns, but almost non-existent stall-warning). The latest driver, which I believe ships with the joystick, called SL-6640 SBK V4.0, works great for me in RoF, but is hopeless with the others. This means when I wish to play RoF with FF, I have to change drivers, rather a pain and somewhat off-putting. Incidentally, the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X Flight Stick has a similar throttle arrangement and is of a comparable price-range. It is an alternative, but also demonstrates that the throttle in the Black Widow isn't entirely unorthodox.

I use the big rocker switch on the back of my Thrustmaster's throttle for rudder.
I had to lower the rudder sensitivity almost all the way down, but it's far better than using a twist rudder once you get the sensitivity tweaked to your liking.
Edit: The one on that stick looks smaller than mine, however, so it may be even more touchy.
