Yes, been hearing about it. Definitely nothing like this existed when played way back when. The game sure has done well.

Devs said there was stuff there, but you just couldn't see it.

Stuff like this almost makes it seem worthwhile to get a subscription to a game like that. I'm still holding out for Star Citizen though and hope it fulfills its potential!
I've got a bad feeling about this.....

I've tried it a couple of times but I wouldn't again without a group of beginners doing it together to work towards a corp. I doubt most of us even have the time. LOL I'm hoping SC will be a more action oriented version of this.

Needs more fleet movements and organization. While it looks cool graphically it feels like there's zero substance.
This is coming from someone who never played Eve and never will, so take it for what it's worth.

It's probably more like there's TOO MUCH substance, but it takes a long long time to get to that level in the game where you experience it.

I never played Eve, but it alwyas looked like a very interesrting game for me, the problem is that it's more about managing and strategy that about actually flying in space.I'm an space and flight simmer, so my thing is more about flying that strategy, although i also like that part. Also the fact it's subcription game always kept me away of trying it.

^I feel you there I don't really care for the management aspect of games I just want to get in a pit and blow stuff up. Don't get me started on subscription games though I just can't do it, none of the games requiring it ever look good enough to warrant paying the price of a retail title hundreds possibly thousands of times over....

It's probably more like there's TOO MUCH substance, but it takes a long long time to get to that level in the game where you experience it. I should probably be more specific. While I'm sure there's plenty of Excel spreasheet stuff running in the background of it all, all this looks like is a giant blob of units standing still and shooting at another blob until someone wins. If you've ever played Sins of a Solar Empire that's what it reminds me of. No fleet organization, no flight groups of fighters with specific orders, no capital ships maneuvering for the best firing positions, no reinforcement management or any real strategy, etc.

Considering how many pc gamers are even on comms, I bet that's right. Possibly some small groups trying to at least run together, but as far as I know there isn't any kind of command structure for issuing orders. These battles are freak events though, mainly a dogpile that happens after some accidental trigger. I think there were 2 I read about last year. The game has made the news a couple of times with economic crashes too though.

Especially when dealing with supercaps. Huge investments of time and isk, they are NOT used capriciously or without a high level of coordination.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein
