Been 15 years since I have put together a plastic model. I am starting with this beauty. Will post pics once assembled. Right now I have painted a few parts but forgot to by paint thinner. LOL I just ordered this bad boy as well, I will be doing it next. I will get a trailer once I get closer to completing it. I forgot how fun these can be.

I paid $17 USD for the Enzo, $28 USd For the PeterBuilt and $22 USD for the 599. So I would say about $20 USD on AVG.
Just depends on the model for the most part. I saw a Kenworth Truck model for $140 USD!!!
I did a ton of models as a kid, but patience wasn't a strong point, now its relaxing to just sit down and paint and build.

The price of a lot of good kits IMO are out of line. Take a look at some such as Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa etc...their prices are a bit overboard considering it's all plastic. I remember a time when you'd be hard pressed to find a kit of any size for more than 20+ dollars (any scale). This doesn't even include what one would need as well in order to finish the kit properly.
In the end...hate to say it. Video gaming is cheaper and offers more on the return end. I do however enjoy building a nice kit (aircraft) from time to time. I purchase mine in Japan since the prices are less their than in the US for Japanese kits.

Some kits are way out there in price. However I feel a greater sense of accomplishment from a model then a video game. But thats just me. I still play video games but I like building things too.
I get bored quick with games and then I look to buy more which is spendy. With models I can finsh one every few weeks and it holds my attention. So its cheaper for me to buy models.

I think the balsa models are even cheaper than plastic, and once you have plans you can just buy the materials and go. you can transfer the plans onto balsa with a PC printer with ink some paper and a clothes iron but yea the book I just brought and read on airbrushing makes me want to try a plastic model. Good Luck with your car and truck? or lorry I will be interesting in seeing your progress

If you look at the quality of the molding, assembly process, etc. in todays models they are light years ahead of where the model industry was 15-20 years ago. Models now have incredible detail built in, so you don't have to spend the money on aftermarket detail kits. The overall ease of building has increased as the manufactures have gotten more savvy on instructions and kit engineering. Also the cost of importation of ANYTHING has gone up in the last 20 years as well. -Jenrick

I had also noted the price increases since my last kit build in the 1990s, and wondered if quality had increased. To be honest, quite a few of the US brand kits I've seen on the shelves are still the same box art I had when I built those kits as a boy, and I had to guess the moldings inside the box were the same too. Prices appear to be 100%+ higher in many cases, which is a bit of a put-off having experience with some of those old moldings.
Back in the 1990s I paid $16 to $25 for a Tamiya kit, and those were indeed some quality leap over the lower priced US brand kits.
